Woman stops for ducks...may go to prison

Woman Who Stopped Car to Help Ducks Faces Life in Prison for Causing Fatal Crash | Fox News Insider

A Canadian woman could receive a life sentence in prison for causing a deadly car crash after stopping to help baby ducks. In 2010, Emma Czornobaj parked her car in the left lane of a Montreal highway and got out to help the ducklings that were on the median. Her parked car caused a pileup that left a father and daughter dead.

Here's my thing...

She's an idiot. I love her sensitivity to the ducklings, but you simply don't do that. Maybe stop and put hazards on? But even that I think is extreme.

My bigger issue here is how she is being punished for someone not being aware of what's in front of them. A stopped vehicle should be noticable, particularly in park, on a highway. So maybe, slow down...or stop?

I just don't see anything criminal here. Idiotic, yes, but not criminal.

She either used poor judgement and/or poorly executed judgement, but the jury in this case have to be complete idiots, and the prosecution complete slime bags.

The Canadian Press reports Andre Roy, 50, who was traveling with his 16-year-old daughter, Jessie, on his Harley-Davidson, was driving an estimated 70 mph to 80 mph in a roughly 60 mph zone.

Motorcycles, and cars as well, are dangerous enough without driving them recklessly...and 20 mph over the speed limit is reckless!

Stiff fine for parking in the left lane but prison is just wrong.

Motorcycle or car, you clearly aren't paying attention if you run into a parked car ON the highway...

It was a stupid move. That being said, isn't it the responsibility of the drivers behind her to stop. What if she was broken down and the car wouldn't move. If I barrell into her, that is my fault. Prison is a little too much.

This happens more than you think.....

Good point!

Don't know how Canada is but I imagine the family of the deceased have pretty good grounds for a civil suit.

They're ducks. Good Lord.

Probably a Peta member.

I'm pretty sure it was dark out wasn't it? And who knows how good the streets are lit if it was. If it was my family member on the motorcycle I would think jail was a fair punishment. Life would be a tad much though.

Also known in some circles as...supper.

I have argued for years that, in my estimation, roughly half the people who have a drivers license, shouldn't. This lady would be in the percentage that shouldn't. maybe that should be her punishment...ban her from having a license for X number of years. I don't think this warrants much if any jail time, and definitely doesn't warrant life.

Was she wrong in stopping for this? Probably so. However, I look at 100% of the blame for the accident falling on the motorcycle driver. Failure.To.Control.

Probably so???? Of course she was wrong to stop in the middle of the road, it's a highway. That's beyond stupid and my guess it's illegal. What if it were dark? What if she was just over the hill? What if she was on a curve? Lot's of unknowns but she certainly is also at fault along with the motorcycle driver no matter any of the other possible conditions that might apply.
