Copies of the KHSAA's "The Athlete" are online...going back to 1938. Many of them have team pictures, pictures of new gyms as they were built, pictures of long-ago KHSAA officials, etc.

Charlie Mayfield, Boyle County HS. Probably 1969(his sophomore season) and versus Mercer County.

November 1980 3A District championship game. One of the key plays for Conner against then #1 Newport. #22 is Jim Pitzer who did the "throwback" play to QB Jim Dorton. David Simpson was the stud for Newport. Pitz' nephew now starts at LB for Covington Catholic.

I am in the last 1 #68. My grandfather was in the late 30's pic and my dad was in the 1962 pic

You're right. I was thinking back to when I was a kid when my godfather, a Bellevue football alum, used to occasionally take me to games. (Don't worry...it only happened on weeks that Cov Cath played at home. That way I could still watch my Colonels play on Saturday in Park Hills). Anyway, I believe they had helmets with a plain old "B", and then the players' numbers on the side from the early 70's until somewhere around '87 or '88 maybe.
