I've always been for transfers. Feel free to go back as far as your eyes will take you on BGP and you'll never see me complaining about transfers. If a family decides that is what is for the best then go for it, good luck and let them play.

 

My youngest son played for the Hoop Dreams 14U team and hopefully he'll get to be a part of Hoop Dreams throughout his high school career. I took over custody of my son at the end of his 7th grade year. He then transferred from Burgin to Boyle County. My home is in Boyle County. My home will be in Boyle County his entire high school career. The only way I would move would be for work and the only possible destination for that is the Corning, New York area and I am 99.9% sure that won't happen. We are Rebels and will be Rebels for the next 4 years. I would not move anywhere in the state so my kid can play for another school. Put that in stone. At the same time, I'm not mad at anyone who does transfer. Let them play is all I ever say.

But see I'm NOT saying that they don't enforce the rules. I think that's the point where logic exits and emotions enter for many people that have commented on here. People rant about the KHSAA not enforcing the rules. I don't think that's the case. The rules say a kid is eligible if there's a legit change of address. In other words, if the kid truly moves, then they are eligible. Many people don't like it when kids become eligible even though they actually moved. The rules don't address intent and, frankly, they shouldn't because that's something that's too subjective to try to evaluate.

Every transfer has a reason and motive behind it. Why people choose to get their panties in a wad about it always makes me laugh.

Went from a lineup of Hines Jones, Tay Guyn, and Jamel Banks returning to DJ Jenkins, Ronnie Carson, Isaiah Johnson, Jamel Banks, with Guyn and Jones most likely coming off the bench. Will be interesting to see what they get from their interior spots.

3 high profile transfers in one year and a year when Scott Co was suppose to be down. Is anybody really that suprised?? This is getting ridiculous

 

If they can PROVE recruiting then drop the hammer but if these kids and their parents moved to Scott Co so that their kid can play there or go to school there then I have no problem with it. That is between their family not anyone else. Bon a fide change of address then they should be ruled eligible. What you have to wonder if the home town kids will get tired of kids coming in and taking their starting job? But it is what it is.

Maybe there's some circumstances we don't know about, but regardless, you know that has to be hard on a kid and that some stability would most likely be a better thing.

When it comes to a kid's best interest and doing what's right by them, then I do care.

 

Cordia gets blasted and lit up on here when Christian Cunningham goes there and it's his third school in three years. Isaiah Johnson has now played at Harlan, Madison Central, and now Scott County and there's not even a peep about that aspect of it. People like BigVMan23 who are consistently against transferring I understand, and the first part of this paragraph wasn't really meant for them.

 

I understand why a kid might be at three schools in 3 years. If my kid was a collegiate prospect, but I'd took a job in Richmond or Lexington that wasn't available in Harlan and then moved, then I'd understand. I'd understand just the same if there was friction at Harlan and the kid moved to Harlan County where kids probably transfer back and forth between the schools more regularly. I'd understand if the kid moved from Harlan to Henry Clay, got there and didn't like it, then enrolled at Lexington Catholic without uprooting again. Things like that are reasonable enough. At some point though, you start seeing a common denominator though.

 

Maybe there's a legitimate explanation for all of it that's perfectly reasonable, but Scott County apologists (which I'm often seen as, and rightfully so) shouldn't be high and mighty with the "nothing to see here... our program recruits itself" attitude when 3 good kids fall into their lap just when they needed them and one of them is 3 for 3 on new schools.

 

I'm sure most any school would welcome Isaiah with open arms because he's a very talented kid, but I don't understand why programs where some kids move once are vilified, but others continually get passes when it's fair to say that someone other than the kid himself is probably fine with "upgrading" programs so frequently. As a minor, I can't imagine the kid has any real say in decisions like finding and paying for housing, etc.

 

Not accusing Scott County of anything, just saying that the whole "3 for 3" thing irks me far more than a kid moving from out-of-state to Kentucky, but the latter gets people far more upset. That principle in and of itself is mind boggling to me.

 

Honestly, I think my conscious would be cleaner knowing that if kids are commodities to be passed around so frequently, then they're also at least getting something out of the deal for themselves. That "something" doesn't necessarily have to be anything illegal or of monetary value. Maybe it's a better education, whatever. I just hope there's something in it for them too.

I can respect that. You said it may be legal but you don't like it and I can understand why. Too many people scream that there are rule violations when there simply aren't. Big difference in that and what you're saying.

Just to clarify Joker...I'm not AGANIST transfers per se..."legit" transfers happen all the time for all sorts of reasons. Parents divorce; dad gets a new job; parents move to take care of elderly parents, and the list goes on. I would never say a kid who has had to move in circumstances like that should have to sit/not play.

 

What I'm not a fan of are situations such as Cordia (which we have discussed to death I know) and which of course as we know now had a lot of illegalities/rule breaking going on. But there are also other scenarios that while quite possibly all requirements have been met...lets just say it's not how I remember high school sports and I'm just not a fan of some of the stuff going on today.

 

Some, including PP92 have talked about this and similar situations has it's roots in the AAU "culture". I'm quite sure that's a fact and probably a big part of it. Some have also said we are headed to club basketball, and it seems some would like and maybe even prefer that. Count me as one who wouldn't like it. But as I have said, I'm a traditionalist that way.
