Why would any of these three kid's situations be comparable to Brent Bach's? Do you have any insight on their situations and why they left their schools?

 

Just using Brent as an example of a very talented player who stuck at his little school and did everything he could to make HIS little school better. That seems to be getting more rare these days in high school basketball, the exception rather than the rule. That's the point I was trying to make.

I am somewhat aware of Ronnie Carson's situation and I am not going to share it publicly. If he wants to let you or anyone else know that's his choice.

And no where did you see me point anyone out specifically, nor will I ask a personal question about a particular issue. Any one and maybe even all three of these kids could have some personal reason for switching schools outside of basketball...but then again as you have brought up several times, it's the AAU culture, so there's that too. That, to me muddies the waters rather than clears them.

Just on the face of it though, I don't find transfers "en masse" like this to be beneficial for high school athletics and regardless of what the facts are, there will always be a taint associated with scenarios just like this.

Every transfer has a reason and motive behind it. Why people choose to get their panties in a wad about it always makes me laugh.

Old Fart II says those transfers were shady too ........I know, I know, AAU culture. Last I checked Scott County, Bullitt East, Casey County and all the others are a part of KHSAA---not AAU????????????

I've always been for transfers. Feel free to go back as far as your eyes will take you on BGP and you'll never see me complaining about transfers. If a family decides that is what is for the best then go for it, good luck and let them play.

 

My youngest son played for the Hoop Dreams 14U team and hopefully he'll get to be a part of Hoop Dreams throughout his high school career. I took over custody of my son at the end of his 7th grade year. He then transferred from Burgin to Boyle County. My home is in Boyle County. My home will be in Boyle County his entire high school career. The only way I would move would be for work and the only possible destination for that is the Corning, New York area and I am 99.9% sure that won't happen. We are Rebels and will be Rebels for the next 4 years. I would not move anywhere in the state so my kid can play for another school. Put that in stone. At the same time, I'm not mad at anyone who does transfer. Let them play is all I ever say.

Pretty sure PP addressed that earlier when he talked about how those kids, going to Scott County, may very well have met and played together in AAU. And I go back to what I said earlier - does it pass the (KHSAA) RULES test? We all have opinions about what's right and wrong and how we think it should be....

 

There's a lot of stuff that goes on in society that I don't agree with but that isn't actually illegal. But I can't blame law enforcement for not doing their job if they aren't prosecuting people for doing things I don't like - unless those things violate the rules (law). My point is that people can complain about the KHSAA all they want but it's their job to enforce the rules - nothing more and nothing less.

They have prep schools for kids/parents that want to stack teams.....they are set up for the AAU culture....

I don't think I get your point by asking that question. Again, I'm not arguing against the KHSAA. Not sure why a school wouldn't want to be in the association.

 

Anyway, I don't guess that it's mandatory but, if they chose not to join, who would they play and in what year-end tournaments? There is a Christian school conference that's not part of KHSAA - mostly really small schools. I guess that's one example.

I try to refrain from these threads but this one is too much!

 

What ever happened to playing high school ball for your hometown school. The school you have been in your entire career and taking pride in that. All these transfers are just to better their resume for the next level and stack the deck in hopes of winning the coveted state title. Anyone that is naive enough to think otherwise are sadly mistaken. Ray Charles and Ronnie Milsap can see this one. Unless Toyota was hiring and well we won't go there :ohbrother:
