Anybody else tired of the KHSAA dead period yet? I need an update on the Heflin/Racke QB competition.

I agree a full month would be awesome.

Both are capable, but, Heflin could be used at other positions (slot, rb) if he does not play qb. Not true of Racke.

 

You make a very good point. No issue with an open competition but in the end if it's a close race, you name the youngster your QB and utilize Heflin as a versatile weapon. Jeff has had some very good QBs and most of them have started numerous seasons behind center.

It's hard for me to even contemplate this since I coached freshman when JM was Roy's top assitant. Things sure have changed since the early days.

I think we will see Heflin as the QB. Also Tanner Green is battling for the starting spot.

Hard to fire yourself when the HC is the AD

 

I think Spritzky was AD at Dixie when he stepped down as HC.

I think the best move is to have Heflin be the starting QB and then let Racke get in and get some playing time when they have a big lead.

The most important player on that roster isn't the QB's, its Powell. Either of these two can hand the ball off and let Dillon run behind that massive O Line.

 

If they are even, I go with the younger Racke. Neither have the big arm that Kuntz displayed over the past few seasons.

I disagree about Racke, as his career progresses, everyone will see he has a better arm than BK and it will not even be close. Racke will be the next big time D1 qb recruit in NKY!

 

Heck, I am not an SK guy but I can't wait to watch him grow and develop over the next three years.

I hope you are correct DD. I don't see it yet (based on size and arm strength) but he's a young kid and has years to mature physically and get stronger. Is the potential there to have a better arm than BK? Sure. Is it likely? Too soon to tell, IMO.

 

I've also heard that the QB job is Cams and it would be hard for someone to take it from him.

Best case scenario, Racke wins the job, Dillon gets and stays healthy, and Heflin in moved to reciever. With that said, I am not sure it will fall in place. This is not the same scenario as when BK started as a soph. They did not have such a quality option in an upperclassmen that year. I would venture to say that if Heflin would have been a senior that year he would have started over BK.

 

Racke was given the bulk of the JV & mop up varsity minutes last year for a reason. If all things are equal it is better for the team if he is the starting QB because that allows Heflin to fill other voids. If he is not ready it is Heflin's job, there is a lot of talent on this years team, scattered on both sides of the ball, and the coaching staff will do what gives them the best chance of winning this year.

 

BTW I really think if Heflin is named the starting QB he will be one of the top QB's in NKY this year.

I doubt that you'd have been able to predict the level of success this program has reached early into that tenure. Glad to see that the administration was able to stand firm in their commitment to the coaching staff at SK during the bleak years.

 

He has been great and I still remember SK fans calling him out for the Trinity losses.
