With today being Election Day in the Commonwealth just wondering how many BGPers took the time to vote today?

I definitely voted!

 

Men have died and women have been jailed in this country while fighting for the right to vote! What is your excuse not to??? (All felons may disregard)

While Elections do effect everyone in some manner, Election Day is a bigger or more personal event for some on BGP than others. There are some BGPers running for office today, some with loved ones running for office and some that work for elected officials and who's future employment may hinge on today's Vote.

Will vote on my way home from work. Robertson County has a full slate of canidates for most every postion (Judge-exec, Sherriff, Co Clerk, Jailer) plus the state wide races. On a side note, this is only if you are registered Democrat. No Republican races except for US Senate.

 

A topic for another thread might be why in certain counties if you want to vote for local canidates, you have to belong to a certain party. Examples would be Robertson, Bracken, & Mason are Democrat while Lewis is Republican. The races are settled in the primary.

Went first thing this morning before heading to work.

 

Pretty quiet ballot for most people I'd imagine.

 

Lots of judge races. We've got five family court judges stepping down this year and so all hell is breaking loose up there. Lots and lots of elections for available seats.

I always vote.

I did this morning, were getting a new Judge Exec this year, gonna be interesting thats for sure.

Going to try to vote between work and district games but not sure if the time will allow it. Hopefully it does though because I hate not voting. This would be the first election I've missed since turning 18.

I will vote later. Since I turned 18 in 1978 I have only missed 1 opportunity to cast a ballot and it's because I was stupid and forgot.

 

I honestly believe that if you don't vote you forfeit your right to complain about the outcome and since I like to complain I always vote.

Four camera crews outside my polling place this morning. It happens to be the same place that Sen. McConnell votes. The TV folks were just sitting around on the curb looking pretty darn bored while waiting for him to roll up.

Our most contested election locally (Somerset/Pulaski Co) is for Jailer, Sheriff and County Clerk.

 

Jailer's race has 8 people running. The incumbent has had two sexual harassment cases settled and a third one in the works, so people came out of the woodwork to run against him...someone may win this election with 25% or less of the vote.

 

Sheriff's has the current sitting Sheriff in his third term against a retired State Trooper...biggest issue in election is the handling of a deputy that had charges brought against him for striking someone during an arrest. 3 incidents ended up being charged and two later dismissed and deputy plead guilty to one and was fired. Issue was that deputy wasn't pulled off of the road when complaints were made. He was pulled off of the road when an indictment was returned.

 

County Clerk's race has incumbent that is retiring. 24 year Deputy Clerk, 6 year Clerk and former Astro, Brave, Tiger and Royal Josh Anderson. Anderson of course has the name recognition as pretty much everyone around here has heard of him. 24 year Clerk has been the face of the office for the last several years (but some question her actual ability) and a 6 year clerk that barely lost the election 8 years ago and has the support of almost every employee in the Clerks Office.

I was the only one in there from 8:20-8:30 but a couple was coming in as I left. Will be interesting to see how many vote statewide.
