I voted, like some of you was hoping to see a better turnout, but the polling place was not very busy.

 

There were some very interesting races here and 4 good friends of mine were elected.

 

The most interesting race was for 93rd district State Representative. Chris Harris defeated W. Keith Hall for that seat after a perticularly nasty campaign. Harris attacked Hall's record and reputation of being corrupt and profitting personally from business dealings on state and county contracts, etc. That race came down to about 200 votes.

 

Also current Jailer, Rodney Scott defeated perhaps the longest serving sheriff in Ky history, Fuzzy Keesee. Fuzzy had served as Pike Co Sheriff for 11 terms I think, nearly 50 years and Scott ended up taking about 67% of the votes.

 

Both are running unopposed in the fall election.

We had two elections settled by less than 30 votes...Judge Exec was 6 votes and Jailer was 29 votes.

All Tell mentioned being registered in the wrong party, and being from Pike County I can relate.

 

If you are not a registered Democrat, then you basically have no vote in local elections.

She said she has no clue how that happened and that she has been a Republican for over 20 years. She lost the election so no uproar or issues going forward.

How does that happen? Poor vetting from the Campbell County Republican Party? Or maybe Kidwell was too busy running his own election campaign to put any effort into making sure the candidates are, in fact, republican. Very nice lady, btw. No business running for office though.

The one scary thing about it, is that it shows that a person running for public office hasn't voted in a primary election in over 20 years...

2014 makes 32 consecutive years in office for Fuzzy, and 40 years total as Pike County Sheriff. I looked it up and I was wrong about his continuous service.

 

He has served 10 terms for a total of 40 years, but not all of them continuous.

 

He served 4 years from 1962-1965

He served 4 years from 1970-1973

He served 32 years from 1982-2014

 

That is a long time in an elected office.

Nearly every candidate for judge that I supported ended up being eliminated before the general election! Yay!

 

Jefferson County Attorney election turned out fine. O'Connell has his flaws, but I really believe we avoided a disaster in Karen Faulkner. O'Connell will be unopposed in November.

 

The judge situation is about to get interesting again if the rumors I'm hearing about the Sixth Circuit are true.

I didn't know until looking at the ballot yesterday that Burrel Charles Farnsley was running for the Senate seat. He's the son of probably the best mayor the City of Louisville ever had but is a strange guy who's run for everything in a few races he just had no chance at. He tried to primary John Yarmuth two years ago and in 2010 hopped into that scrum with Greg Fischer, David Tandy, and Jim King in the mayoral primary.

 

I truthfully know very little about him but have huge respect for his father from an historical perspective. Just can't get over that weird list of races he's entered.

:lol2: I thought of that too this morning...until the 80's a sheriff could only serve one term and then had to sit out a term...he was still there a long time!
