May 15, 201412 yr I expected them to move Latos to the 60 day to open up a 40 man spot. It won't affect his timetable.
May 15, 201412 yr Cincinnati Reds @Reds Last night, Christiani optioned to Louisville. Today, Francis promoted, Latos transferred to 60day DL. Teams add 26th player btwn games. If they can add a 26th player between games why was there a need to option Chrstiani?
May 15, 201412 yr If they can add a 26th player between games why was there a need to option Chrstiani? Great question, I'm guessing they are adding someone else for just the night game but not sure why they didn't add Francis as the 26th man. They plan to keep him around?

May 15, 201412 yr Refresher...what is his timetable? March 30 he was placed on 15-day DL. It was retroactive to March 21. Being placed on the 60-day DL means he is eligible for return on Monday, May 19. If he is throwing bullpens now, he should be heading on a rehab assignment soon and wouldn't be back until after the 19th anyhow.

I couldn't remember when they were thinking he might be back. Be nice to have him back by STL on Memorial Day weekend or for that first West Coast Trip the following week. Didn't know if those were options.

I don't think they've set a date for him to be back but all signs point to him going on a rehab assignment soon. He's thrown atleast one bullpen (possibly more) recently and they say it went well.
May 15, 201412 yr Reds will add a 26th man for the second game but haven't announced who yet. That's the reason for the Christiani move.
May 15, 201412 yr You always pitch your ace or best starter available in the first game of a DH. That way it gives you the best chance to win the first game when everyone is fresh, vs the second game where you probably wouldn't have your best lineup out there. It's pretty common knowledge
May 15, 201412 yr Game #1: Hamilton CF Schumaker RF Phillips 2B Votto 1B Frazier 3B Ludwick LF Pena C Cozart SS Cueto P Maybe the logic follows that when BP grounds into an inning ending DP, Votto can then lead off in front of Frazier, Luddy and Pena to get the middle wave going. Surely he's not got JV in the 4hole with the prospect of him knockin' in some runs.
May 15, 201412 yr Game #1: Hamilton CF Schumaker RF Phillips 2B Votto 1B Frazier 3B Ludwick LF Pena C Cozart SS Cueto P Cueto is saying, "Please, just get me 2 runs, OK guys?"

Since the DH is a very rare thing, I don't think there is such a thing as a common knowledge best approach. Either way works.

If you play the same lineup in both games, then there is going to be a significant drop in production the second game. I'd imagine a different lineup the 2nd game
