May 14, 201412 yr We are all big time Reds fans and it definitely is what we are accustomed to seeing from this team, managers, and old Walt. Why did we not go get a right handed power guy to play left field, and use Ludwick as a utility guy? Hitting with runners in scoring position has killed this team for (4) years so why not address the issue. Last night you have to start Schumaker vs right handed pitcher, you have to set Cozart especially after the way his back up played Sunday. Your starter pitches a 2 hitter, and you lose? A hard feat in baseball for sure. This could have been a big month for the Reds, I hope they can hang around 500 and get healthy but that still will not solve the Cozart issue/LF issue. Should have been addressed and never happened.

May 14, 201412 yr They are near the middle of the pack in terms of production out of LF (9 out of 15 in RBIs and OPS). They could manage with that. That's hasn't really been the issue, SS has been downright pitiful. Cozart has given them nothing more than defense.

LF has been far from the problem at this point. They wouldn't have been buyers anyway. LF may not be the glaring issue, nor is it the star. You do have a top ten salary by position out there though. And thats not out of 15.

Who were they going to get? Heck lets upgrade every position then. We need to be #1 across the board. LF isn't the problem but lets keep hammering away at Ludwick when Cozart is 2 for 100 and BP and Votto have like 20 RBIs combined.

But to say its not a problem at all is sort of short sighted. The main issue is that the organization overvalued the talent on the team. They just aren't that good.

I'll give you one... Nelson Cruz but it's not like he was a sure thing. Lots of risk involved.
May 14, 201412 yr You can't even really look at Meso coming back, because it isn't like Pena hasn't produced. Ludwick is hitting and knocking in runs decently, but not like a middle of the order hitter. Heisey is NOT doing well... We need Jay healthy and hitting in a hurry. I think we knew exactly what we were getting in Cozart, and thought if there was one 'hole' in the lineup we would be okay. Or we'd have to be, because we literally don't have any other options. The pressure is going to start coming on Walt, because he has more than a couple 'bad' contracts he's handed out... (Ludwick... Broxton... BP?) I'm not ready to call Homer's bad, but it isn't good yet. I only call BP's bad because they were trying to get rid of him, and it doesn't look like his production is going to go as long as his contract. But I could be wrong on that. Time will tell. In the meantime, they need Meso and Jay healthy in a hurry.

They weren't going to spend any more money, and they think they have a team as is that is able to compete for the division title. And I still can't figure out the problem in the minors. I'm starting to think that we kind of got lulled to sleep the last couple of seasons. This organization seem to be quite flawed.

I'll give you one... Nelson Cruz but it's not like he was a sure thing. Lots of risk involved. I really wanted the Reds to pursue two players: Michael Morse & Emilio Bonifacio. Morse agreed to a one year, $6 million deal with the Giants. He is not a great LF defensively, but he has been serviceable. He's actually starting at 1B for them now that Belt is on the DL. Morse is injury prone, but he's a big bat. He has cooled down some, but he still has some pop. .256 avg, .307 OBP, 8 HR, 24 RBI in 40 games. 33 K's. Bonifacio is hitting .313 (.361 OBP) with 11 SB. He can play virtually any position; however, Hamilton has played very well and, like it or not, you can't take BP out of the lineup. So, unless Bonifacio could play SS, he's not the answer either.
