Got a comment/question/item for consideration:

Perhaps I'm a little paranoid (no jokes you guys), but aren't we making it too easy for our competition and just providing them the standard or bar to reach when we post our players lifting numbers or other stats on this forum?

It can be used as a motivational tool by other coaches and also gives other teams a handy measuring stick to see how they compare.

I don't mean to have a complete bunker mentality; like coaches who won't let their players participate in weight lifting contests, passing leagues, or discourages them from camps, etc.

Just thought I'd throw it out there to consider. I'm completely in favor of a strong weight program - thats what is needed to get past Rockcastle, Bell, etc (IMHO). Perhaps when our players have excelled someone could post they have a new high & encourage supporters to go by the weight room & see the totals??? UNLESS of course coaches prefer civilians stay away:p

Keep up the good work ..........

Cheers, Woody

You know what they say: “It’s not being paranoid if they really are out to get you”. Every team on our schedule is going to try their best to beat us anyway – whether or not we post our lifting results.

I think that the guys have been working very hard in the weight room and deserve a little recognition for their hard work. We won’t get to see them on the playing field for several months yet. But, we can share their successes in the weight room.

I don’t think many of us adults will really get the chance to run by the weight room to see their results posted on the board. But, we can read about them here – and congratulate the players for a job well done.

As far as setting the bar high for our competition: I think that is GREAT – that’s just where we need to be. I believe in having high expectations for our young men – most likely they will live up to them.

I’m not very good at keeping things double top secret anyway. :D

- How did practice go??

It was canceled - expecting bad weather.

Any word if we could get a PA man at the game???? AKA Dickie or Dirk?

I think the more important question is will Graybeard and his gang have their tailgating party for this game?  :dancingpa :D :D

Good luck to the Tomcats this year - except in the first game against my Raceland Rams - lol. I am a born and bred Raceland fan but respect the Ahland tradition very much. Tomcats are always a class act and I know that Raceland respects them (as I think that they do us).

I agree Graybeard, it is great that these kids get the recognition from their offseason achievements. Besides it seems that when these numbers were posted alot of people on BGP didn't believe them anyway. So mabybe we can use that to our advantage.

What a wonderful idea LRCW - as usual you are a couple of steps ahead of me. But, those great tailgate parties had more to do with the efforts of the "gang" than me. Hopefully we'll be able to cook something up.

Practice was cancelled Monday due to bad weather. Im assuming it will resume today.

A great sport, good eats and the company of your friends. Is it football season yet?

Hi Graybeard:

First off, thanx to you & yours for being such an important part of Tomcat Nation and our continued success.

Yes, everyone is ALWAYS "out to get us", regardless of any other factors - only Tomcats know how much everyone shoots for us

I'm all with you in regards to recognition of the youngsters off season efforts, nothing wrong with LOTS of recognition for that matter. We used to have lift-a-thon fundraisers in the off season. Do they still do that? And/or have there been any thoughts about lifting contests? Of course that is completely up to coach Hart.

Sorry if my post insinuated "we" shouldn't be the one setting the bar for everyone else - that is definitely NOT what I wanted to suggest:cry:

I was just considering the concept of basically handing our competitors a concrete number(lifts) for them to aim for. Anyway, no doubt some folks may like to do so for psych reasons or perhaps as some have posted, they aren't believed anyway.

I completely agree with you on the high expectations and youngsters achieving them. Anyone who knows me can vouch for the standard that I encouraged kids to reach for - in sports, school, & life. My short visit back to Ashland this past fall, including visiting for an afternoon in the JFL pressbox suggests to me that you & yours follow a similar model.

The double top secret stuff - others will tell you that I was a master of that. But that was kinda suggested in my original comment about posting stats though, wasn't it:sssh:

Anyway, it was just a topic to pass the off season - since I can't hang around & watch spring practice ...aaarggh:cry: Oh well, take care & best wishes.

Cheers, Woody

I always enjoy your posts Woody! Thanks for your continued support of the Tomcats.

Practice was canceled again yesterday. I think they are trying to build the antici.....pation.

Practice will continue today im pretty sure. Field is in pretty good shape i believe.

Nice to watch some football today! I was impressed with how Darrell Mahan threw the ball today. One of the new kids looks really athletic, hopefully he will stick with it.

Also, the O line look pretty good today. Not bad for a first spring practice.

Was this one of the transfers?

Was there any live team scrimmage?
