Ashland 2006

I agree:thumb: Mahan looked better today throwing the ball IMO.

I have been really impressed with Darrell so far! He threw a couple really nice deep balls today. I also thought the new kid Tremell looked really good considering it was only his 2nd day of football practice ever!

Michael Walters has also been opening some big holes, man he is big! A 600lb squat doesnt hurt either. Well, maybe it does hurt...

If Mahan's footwork improves, he could be dangerous from the spread. Considering having Thomas in the backfield and McDavid, the new kid, and others at receiver the Tomcats could have the making of an explosive offense. If the line continues to grow and mature they will be a force. With a great line the possibilities are endless as far as which offense to run. I can see some smashmouth and air raid in the Tomcats future. I am hearing that this line "COULD" be one of the best to suit up for the Tomcats. Size, strength, and a little nastiness could be their forte.

We have been talking alot about offense, but the Cats defense is what impresses me most, other than the letdown against Rockcastle where I feel they just got beat physically they were the backbone of the team all of last season and I look for more of the same. Fields Davis will solidify the middle and other key returnees will provide skill and depth at important positions. Hart's emphasis on speed for defense will prove to be the key again this season. Not counting the chickens to early, but I'm sure the coaching staff are trying to scheme a way to stop that Rockcastle line. Personally I feel Ashland has the skill to make it deep in the playoffs, but success will hinge on the guys up front.

Great post! Im sure the defense will be top notch once again this season. Im also looking for a great season from the O-line!

It was a good first practice. Some notable players were missing due to other spring sports, and the coach allowing the basketball players to take a break. But, this team looks to me to have a lot of potential. There is a very large senior class this year – and that kind of leadership has to be worth something.

Just happy to be there,

I believe that this is the key for this upcoming football season's success. Ashland needs some outstanding leadership from this class of seniors in order to be successful

You could also have end of spring practice (or other seasonal period) contests of speed, agility, etc drills. you could reward/acknowledge either overall % improvement or those by position, grade, etc for the team, or even all HS athletes, or even students not currently playing a sport? - that might be a way of allowing a coach to getting someone to particpate?

Cheers, Woody

Sounds like a great idea to me Woody. Maybe this would also help in the motivaton of the offseason workouts.

Another good day of practice! Freshman Blake McCleod is looking really good! Keep it up guys.

What position is he playing at?

How big is he? I think last year he was listed at around 6'2 and 310.

Walters is now about 6'2 or 6'3 and bout 330.

Running back.

Ashland has 27 seniors on the roster right now. That has to be one of the biggest in recent memory.

Aint that the truth. Ive been itching for some football. I have actually been watching the films from this past season everynight for the past few days.

Does that girl your marrying know your a nut?

Good to see those numbers on Michael Walters, seems like a fine young man.

Yes, and she is surprisingly supportive of my "obsession". But we dont live together yet, so I dont think she knows the depths of my Tomcat Football fixation just yet. Plans are coming together for my "Tomcat Room" as we speak. I had to give up total creative control over the rest of the house to secure my Tomcat Room, but thats ok, I dont plan on being in any other room. She didnt like my idea for alternating maroon and white vinyl siding......
