With the uproar over the past several years over Indian Mascots in college football and even the NFL, how many high school teams (primarily in Ky) need to look at changing their mascot/name?

Holy Cross (Covington) and Montgomery County are both the Indians, so I'd assume they'd have to be on the list.

How about Southwestern Warriors? Play their games at the Reservation

If the can of worms is going to be opened, you probably have to also take a look at those schools who are Rebels too, don't you? (I'm thinking of especially those that may have their team logo involve the Confederate flag.)

Plus, there's I think about 3 or 4 that, like Southwestern, go with the "Warriors". Don't know how all the schools use it, though.

Who gets to decide what's is offensive? Do you eliminate the Devils (Russell and Dayton)?

Cumberland County is the Panthers, not the Redskins.

 

Cumberland High in Harlan County was called the Redskins, but they closed when Harlan County High School opened a few years back.

You can be Rebels without using the Confederate flag so I don't think any of them should ever change. For instance, Boyle County is black and gold, which is hardly Civil War-ish. Casey County is light blue and red, which might seem like confederate colors, but so long as they aren't flying the old battle flag in the gym, I've got no qualm with "Rebels."

My apologies. Just did a google search for Kentucky high school mascots, and found a website that had them listed. Didn't bother to see how old the information may have been. (And obviously I couldn't read my own chicken scratch that I wrote down in the first place!)

JCPS has already gone PC to an extent.

Seneca from Redskins to Red Hawks

 

Iroquois is still the Raiders but their logo went from being native American based to being a wolf. Haven't got the logic of that one figured out.

 

We still have the Atherton Rebels (civil War connotations) but it's only a matter of time.
