ESPN - Los Angeles NAACP president has resigned, following scrutiny of his decision to honor Donald Sterling

 

 

Mr. Jenkins has quite the history (see link below).

 

I'm surprised that $45,000 in donations since 2007 was all that it took (in donations from one of Sterling's foundations) to get Sterling the award once (and to have another on the schedule).

 

The NAACP is saying that they are going to review the standards for giving out awards. You'd probably think "don't give awards to known racists" is going to be somewhere in there.

NBC news reporting that Sterling has cancer, surprised he has lived this long.

^ Prostate cancer. While it's still very serious, a lot of men his age are treated successfully for it.

Is it just me or is anyone else really kind of outraged at Leon Jenkin's actions?

 

I see them as being on a different plane, but almost as warped as Sterling's views. As far as I'm concerned, we're talking about a person who sold out his cause, which is shameful, especially considering it was only for $45,000 over a few years. Not justifying it more than what I'll say next, but I think I would be more inclined to sell out one of my causes for $1 million than I would $50,000.

I used to have respect for Tommy Lasorda, until I saw his interview today. I was half awake but basically he said something like "I don't want to speak ill will of the lady, but I hope she gets run over by a truck?"

 

I don't care about her, what/who she is now, or her past. She exposed a bigot! Well he was already known to have a past, but this brought it out full force. That is all I care about, NOTHING ELSE!

Lasorda is allowed to say these things, he is old and from a different era. Wait that's the excuse for Hank Aaron.

Also on Sunday, Donald Sterling apologized for what he called a "terrible mistake."

 

"I'm not a racist," Sterling told CNN's Anderson Cooper in excerpts posted from an interview taped Sunday and also set to air Monday. "I made a terrible mistake. I'm here to apologize."

 

In the interview with Cooper, Sterling said years of good behavior as an owner should count toward his future.

 

"I'm a good member who made a mistake," Sterling said. "Am I entitled to one mistake, am I after 35 years? I mean, I love my league, I love my partners. Am I entitled to one mistake? It's a terrible mistake, and I'll never do it again."

 

Sterling said he waited to make a public apology because he was "emotionally distraught."

 

"The reason it's hard for me, very hard for me, is that I'm wrong," Sterling said. "I caused the problem. I don't know how to correct it."

 

He later added, "If the owners feel I have another chance, then they'll give it to me

Sterling did an interview on AC 360 in an effort to make him less racist. Ironically though he made himself even look more racist than before. He's a scumbag of a human being and will get what he deserves.
