Do people seriously remember high school player ratings from that many years ago?

 

I honestly have no clue what any of his recruits were rated but JokersWild's post above is pretty solid.

Exactly. Recruiting rankings mean nothing IMO. UK had "the best class in history" this past season, and Russ Smith was a 2 star recruit. Play on the field/court is what matters.

Totally disagree on that UK bball finished as runner up and Brohm and Bridge were top 5 rated QBs in the nation, you all will see the difference.

Nobody on this board compared Brian Brohm to Brett Favre. I am confident in that.

Couple of things that stand out to me in the effort to build up the case against Petrino w/re to teams faltering after his departure.

 

Isn't there always a talent exodus after a particular coach leaves? I recall being told late in Petrino's first stint how much depth was being developed, and I also recall Kragthorpe apologists speaking of a "housecleaning" in terms of questionable characters that Petrino recruited who were pushed out the door.

 

And while I don't really follow Arkansas especially closely, it seems reasonable to assume a lot of guys probably transferred out with that coaching change. Especially given the messiness of it all and Johnelle's slightly less messy interim period.

Can you name these so called players that left? Did they go on elsewhere to become productive? Sometimes guys leave early, but didn't someone say that almost the entire team came back for Krags? At what point do we consider questioning how Petrino builds a team? Takes alot of questionable characters and guys who do not seem overly talented. He always makes it work with other people's players though and to some degree his players as well.

Never said he did better. But realistically year 4 is largely a mix of both staffs classes due to redshirts and the first year being a waste and usually filled with the previous coaches recruits.

Largely a mix? I disagree. Are there guys left over from the previous coach? Sure. But by Year 4, most people will attribute the success (or lack there of) to the new coaches recruits/coaching....

Very true, but that is the state of the sports world today. Still strange coincidence that teams made up completely of guys he recruited weren't very good.
