Coach Cal to meet with players

AP has shown flashes of what he's capable of, but I don't think he's sustained a level of play, for any length of time, that would warrant him leaving for the NBA.

Completely agree. I do think he possesses the necessary skills to be an elite defender at the NBA level though.

If he leaves now, he'll have a solid 10-12 year career overseas or in the D League. If he waits a year or two, who knows?

He will be lucky to make it 3 years in the NBA. I hope he can but he just can't put it all together.

It's been "Next year..." with Poythress since he got to UK. He's had sufficient time to put it all together, and he's yet to do it. Maybe, next year... :lol2:

His first year he had the opportunities, just seemed to have trouble motivating himself. This season I thought his motor was excellent, his spots diminished though. If he comes back, he should see a lot more playing time as the only "3" on the roster. If he shows up with the same motor as this season, I can see big things from him.

Spot on.

I agree. I think he might have a chance to showcase even more of himself next year. But the big thing is like you said, if he can sustain his level of play.

I feel like being one year away from graduation helps with the decision, maybe.

Also, shouldn't next year's draft class be a little less stacked, benefitting a guy like Poythress?

He needs to work on his jump short more than just about any college player I've seen this year. If he can start shooting a little more consistently, I think he draft stock could jump quite a bit at the end of next season.

Which is odd because he shot a good percentage from 3 as a freshman.

I've been reading Cal's new book and he mentioned AP's three-point percentage his freshman year, over 40%. His shooting just seems like the part of his game that he needs to work on the most, but I've been wrong before.

It is, that's why it's kind of interesting he shot it so well last year. He didn't take many but he made most of them. He took even less this season.

A presser, or just a tweet?
