Someone suggested I give this its own thread.

 

 

This occurred this past weekend in the Bearcat Classic. The team in the first clip is the Dayton Vipers. The team in the second clip is the Ohio Cougars.

Worth noting:

 

• Bo's box out fundamentals are text book

 

• The first kid did not get ejected from the game. Should he have?

 

• After the play in the first clip, parents from the other team were calling Bo a thug. (It was surreal)

In the second clip, I saw the ref signal a flagrant foul. Who did he call it on? I really saw nothing from either player in that clip that warranted a flagrant foul.

 

I will say this about Schuh boxing out. I love seeing players boxing out. It is a fundamental that just isn't done enough. However, if you are boxing out so hard that you are pushing the player you box out completely out of bounds 15 feet from the basket, I think that is a foul.

The big guy that Bo was boxing out takes his left arm and slams Bo down with it. He gets Bo in the neck.

I didn't see anything in the second clip, looked like he more lost his balance while boxing out. First clip kid should have been tossed.

The second clip looked like the Schuh kid just fell down. 1st kid should have been ejected.

I watched it several times and didn't see that. It looked to me like the big guy rotated to the basket in a bit of a swim move and Schuh was pushing so hard on him that he fell to the floor. I definitely don't think that should have been an intentional foul.

 

When I played, if I had a guy boxing out like that, I stepped back quickly and broke contact or did a swim move. Either way, if the guying boxing out is pushing really hard, there is a good chance he is going to lose his balance.

Eject the kid in the 1st one.

2nd one doesn't look like much on video to be honest.

Let me first say I love the aggressiveness of Bo boxing out. Wish we had more players that played with that fire.

 

My next comment is more of a general comment about AAU. Why is it that when the kids transition from HS ball where touch like fouls were called to AAU where hardly anything seems to be called? Most of the same officials are working in the AAU ranks but it seems like from the player stand point only the strong are going to survive. How do kids adjust from HS to AAU and then back to HS where it seems more touch like fouls are going to be called.

 

Would love to know what others think about this.

If you can get the video up in size enough you can see that the big guy (he was about 6'5" 250) does indeed "swim move" his arm into and through Bo's neck. The official was watching from a good angle. It was indeed a lot more subtle than the first move

Are AAU rules different than high school? If not that was a major lane violation on the first one.

First clip should of been an ejection. Second clip was no more than a personal foul in my mind.
