March 29, 201412 yr Did anyone see James Young try to give the choke sign when Blackshear missed his first free throw? Yep.
March 29, 201412 yr It was a great shot by Harrison. However, everyone is disregarding the way Randle drew the defenders in and set him up. A month ago Randle lowers his shoulder and puts the whole game on his drive. As his assists showed against Wichita State and his willingness to kick it out tonight he has realized that he had to trust his teammates. To me the drive and pass was a better okay than the shot. That is what caused the wide open look. I definitely agree the assist was big & don't want to take anything away from Randle, but I was glad (and impressed) that Aaron had the willingness to take the shot after having a poor shooting game.
March 29, 201412 yr Hey Randy, what did I say about this UK team at the beginning of the year? TELL ME WHAT I SAID! Refresh my memory. :lol2:
March 29, 201412 yr I definitely agree the assist was big & don't want to take anything away from Randle, but I was glad (and impressed) that Aaron had the willingness to take the shot after having a poor shooting game. He did the same thing at the end of the 1st half in the Wichita State game I believe. Randle's transformation in the tournament has been astonishing. He's went from an "all about me" game to "whatever it takes to win" game. We're seeing the results. I'm probably the twins biggest fans on here, but they've never been gun-shy. Aaron will put it up without batting an eyelash. :lol2:
March 29, 201412 yr Refresh my memory. :lol2: No problem. I said that they're profoundly talented -- the best collection of players anywhere in the country -- and that if they don't win the title it can't be considered anything other than a terrible disappointment. You'll do well to remember just how brilliant I am.
March 29, 201412 yr Everyone that wanted the twins gone after this season are most likely going to get their wish. Andrew was a floor general last night. 14 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 turnovers....
March 29, 201412 yr Anyone know when/if they're going to replay this one? Need to DVR it. If you have CBS College Sports Network I would be on the lookout on that channel. They show replays all week.
March 29, 201412 yr Just now getting to read the thread and although some of this has already been discussed here is my take. 1.) Like Everybody said, I still have no clue how they won that game. I was depressed for almost the entire game because it just felt like they were going home, loved the fight they showed at the end. 2.) They don't win this game without Poythress. He made all the winning plays down the stretch and without him they likely lose. I will even say that if Young didn't foul out they would have lost the game. Hancock was abusing him on defense and since he had been in foul trouble but started out the game hot, he kept trying to get shots up and a lot of times they were not in rhythm with the offense. AP immediately came in and shut Hancock down when it looked like he was about to put the game away. Without Poythress shuttting him down in the final minutes Kentucky doesn't win. 3.) Dakari!!!!!!!! 4.) Horrible foul call on the Randle block, a little bit of body but that was weak. Officiating was pretty bad the entire game though for each side. 5.) FT's obviously a major storyline for both teams. Kentucky was able to get guys like Dakari, Poythress, and Randle to hit but UL couldn't get their guards to hit. 6.) It was one of the ugliest games of all time to have to watch, but its all good now!!!! 7.) Huge play that hasn't been talked about much was Hawkins scrambling to get on top of that loose ball. Had he turned it over there it could have been a different outcome. Thankfully he was able to get back on it with the possession arrow favoring UK. Otherwise he played some key defense. 8.) They are going to have to try and get Marcus Lee ready for some minutes against Michigan. He's looked lost out there most of the time but they need some big bodies to step up in WCS absence. If he can just bring two or three minutes worth of energy and rebounding it will go a loooong way. 9.) Harrisons did what they needed to do but it wasn't pretty. 7-24 from the field combined, but they made their free throws. Huge three by Aaron, and seven big dimes for Andrew. They really wasn't getting any shots to fall but they stayed calm, made their free throws and did what they had to do to win the game. I thought Andrew was done as well right after WCS, when he fell on the layup and they went to break you could see him starting to cry. I thought he may have been done as well, came back from the tv timeout and I was relieved to see him in there.....then he sinks two big free throws. Just proud of the toughness they showed even when things weren't going well. Go cats!!!! What a season, what a tournament!!!!
March 29, 201412 yr Finally found the Russ postgame comments...Class act. https://twitter.com/ericcrawford/status/449793832662491136/photo/1 Like many have said, hard not to like him.
March 29, 201412 yr Did anyone see James Young try to give the choke sign when Blackshear missed his first free throw? I saw it and thought he was doing that too.
March 29, 201412 yr Everyone that wanted the twins gone after this season are most likely going to get their wish. Andrew was a floor general last night. 14 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 turnovers.... Played well, played for the team and got them the W. However, their shooting didn't help them much in this one. 7-24 combined. I'd love to see them back, but if Kentucky keeps winning they keep playing themselves higher into the first round. Like Chad Ford said, GM's want to like them and now they are starting to have a reason too. Hopefully if they do leave it will be because they led the team to a Final Four!!!
March 29, 201412 yr My two takeaways: 1) Dakari really flourished, and 2) ironic that missed free throws would be a problem for UL, but a nonissue for UK.
March 29, 201412 yr He can start with his coach Maybe so, but that has nothing to do with THIS young man's character. Like I said, MANY of us need to be more like him.
March 29, 201412 yr Jerry Tipton (the real one) reporting that Russ Smith went to the UK locker room & congratulated the UK players. How can you not like Russ Smith?:thumb:
March 29, 201412 yr I'll check the DVR when I get home. Apx how much time was on the clock Around 15 seconds. It was when Blackshear missed the first of two freethrows when UL was down by 2.
