How to get recruited for D-1 football

Featured Replies

Sending your film to every school in America is a good idea. You think schools from NY know about NKY football?? NO!!

Your NKY head coach may know a few local D1 coaches. Why only have a few options when there are over 200 D1 schools.

True, that is why we ultimately went with a recruiting agency (PrepStars). They sent film to virtually every coach in America. My son received interest, contact and offers from schools that would have never known he existed in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, California, and Arkansas to name a few.

That is what it takes to get your son out there playing in NKY. Offers can come from schools who have never seen you play in person. The time invested in the contact with the schools was well worth the effort. Meaning following up emails calling txt.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Combines are run by 3rd party organizations. College coaches are not invited to these events. They may send GA scouts but actual coaches are not invited or able to attend. These events are strictly to get the numbers from the attendees and send them to the D-1 schools. If you can't land yourself in the top 100-50 people on these lists, the combines are not quite as useful.

The one-day camps are much more useful as you put yourself directly in front of coaches. University of Cincinnati is a local school that usually has this event with multiple coaches from across divisions.

This is what I did. Send oit film to every D1 school Muti times to Muti coaches. I was surprised by the feed back. I didn't think they watched film emailed to them. Then I narrowed down who was very interested. Meaning they asked us to come to their camps. I then narrowed it down even more by asking them if they were willing to come to the HS and watch my son practice. The teams that came to practice are very interested. Pick 3 dream schools. Ohio State, UK and UC. Go to those camps uninvited the rest by invite only. Trust me it stinks to drive hours to a camp and the coaches put you in with the we don't think they can play kids. With the personal invite you are in with the better players. That's what you want. When teams show up to NKY from NY they really like you!!

Really?!!! Didn't realize there were that many D1 schools. I need to get on the ball because I'm missing about 70 something...

There's 238 division 1 schools playing football right now I think. UAB might have be messing up the numbers.

D1 FBS has 125 full members, with 3 transitional. I think he was including FCS as well. The two really need to be kept separate since they cannot compete in post season.

In this case I don't really care if they are kept separate because they are giving kids full rides to play football. With the exception of the stupid league Morehead is in. One level is 85 and one is 55?

124 FCS schools

It is important to note also that FBS can ONLY give full rides while the FCS is allowed to give partials from their pool of grants-in-aid.

FCS has 63 full rides. FCS can give partials but only to 85 players. They cant give any football scholarship money to more than 85.

FCS-- The Pioneer league and The Ivy league don't offer scholarships. I think most of the Patriot League schools just in the last few years started to offer full rides.
