How to get recruited for D-1 football

The ONLY thing on here that you might not include with your hudl highlights first time, might be GPA until senior year, and or ACT scores, which you can send later in the spring. Most coaches understand this. Parents DO need to get informed, but I'm telling you if you try and contact a coach by yourself, as a parent, and or friend of a player, college coaches WON'T take that call 99.9% of the time. Just trying to help ALL high school football players further there careers.

How in the world are you going to get a coaches cell phone number to call them?

Coaches phone numbers, schools athletic dept. phone numbers, head coaches e-mails, NO WAY a head coach replies to you if do any of these things to get his attention about your son. 100% fact! I understand NOT ALL high school head coaches are willing to help out, however if they DO, it's your best option vs. you, the parent contacting them, again 100% truth. You did have some good points, but you are WAY undervaluing the importance, or difference maker a high school coach can be for your son's chances of getting an athletic sch. to college.

look you want the position coach to bring the film to the head coach my experience is If your film and size fits the mold they will answer emails. I have 100% fact that they Do!

Your High School coach should be a big part of this. Why sit back and let him do all the work.

Not one time have I said " sit back and let him do all the work. " My WHOLE point is your high school coach has a way better chance of getting to his or her next level coach vs. his mommy or daddy. Again 100% fact!!!

You said in No Way. That is false.

How to get recruited for a d-1 scholarship? You post combine numbers like this :

Football Recruiting ‏@247recruiting 12m

2015 OL Chuma Edoga ran a 4.86 40-yard dash w/ a 4.46 shuttle and a 31.8” vertical at the Atlanta Nike Football Camp Chuma Edoga

Ridiculous numbers for a 300 lb athlete.

Just follow the advice given in RAM's articles about recruiting. I have THANKED him for these articles because what they have done for my son is absolutely amazing. We have gone to no combines. I cannot believe the responses.

Combines are used to eliminate athletes from the discussion. If you are good enough they will find you.

One of the worst pieces of advice given, and one that is repeated ad nauseum.

If you wait to be "found" you will be disappointed.

Glad those articles helped, that is why they are there. Congratulations again to you and your son.

There is nothing in RAM' articles about letting them find you. His articles are extremely pro-active and stress the biggest hidden factor which is academics. READ THE ARTICLES AND FOLLOW THE ADVICE. They are very well written. Easy to understand, even for a guy like me that had absolutely no clue of what to do.

Hmmmm....Just something that I heard come out of Mark Stoops' mouth.

In some respects, both you and RAM are right. If you are a 4 or 5 star caliber athlete that has all of the height, weight , reach, speed and agility measurements, you will be found because bcs programs have the recruiting budgets to "find" you. However, if your skill/athletic ability is d1 fcs, d2 or naia, those programs do not have budget to "find" you and you must make an effort to market yourself through online video and participation in school camps. My experience is that combines are are only effective exposure if you fall into the 4 or 5 star category.

It goes a little deeper than that. Most of the time it comes down to in state talent vs. out of state talent. Many FCS and lower levels fill thier roster with in state talent for many reasons, cheaper to recruit, scholarship costs less(yes it cost schools more to sign out of state players) and the overall familiarity to the program and athlete. Why would a FCS school worry about a player from one state that is marginal height and weight with good skills when their state has a number of those type of players.

Are there exceptiosn to this? Always, as there is to any anything.

As a good example of what I am trying to say, look at the list of committments from Kentucky this year. Not many out of state guys compared to instate. All states would have a list that look similar to that.

Hmmmm....Just something that I heard come out of Mark Stoops' mouth.

And, for him, it was probably right in is mind.

1% of high school football players will play college football. If you are one of the elite players that in the 1% of that 1%, you will be found by colleges. If you are one of the fastest players in the country, you will be found. If you are an over 6'6" offensive lineman, you will be found. And, there is nothing wrong with that. But, what about the other 99% of the 1% that will play college football?

Simple fact, most of that 99% of top 1% want to earn money to help pay for college, they will never play on TV, they will not be in a bowl game, they will never be talked about on Sports Center, but they can earn money to help pay for, or completely pay for a college education. Those players have to market themselves and let the big, or small college coaches know they are there and interested or risk the chance of not earning any money for college by playing football.

My son was recruited by over 50 colleges: a few D1, several D2, many NAIA, and virtually every D3 on the east coast. Do you know his name? Will he be on Sports Center? Probably not. But, he is going to college for a greatly reduced price because of his academic accomplishments and his ability to play College Football. Did the colleges that recruited him find him? Yea, I would say they would tell you they did, but in reality he emailed them, sent them his player profile, sent them video, attended camps, and attended a few combines. They found him? Sure, but they found him because he was findable by putting himself out there to be found by marketing himself.

If a player is told to sit and wait to be "Found", they are being given bad advice. They need to go "find" the colleges and let the college know they want to be "found". This is one of the few times in a players life that they hold the cards and one of the few times in their lives that they are going to be pursued by so many people. The players have to put the effort and work in to be "found".
