March 13, 201412 yr The list composed by that guy says that Gatlinburg is rated #1 by Trip Advisor which is direct input from those going through it not the opinion of just one writer. Newport is nice but I'm all about the Sharks and Bigger Shark Tank in TN wins me over I was going to say I liked Shedd Aquarium in Chicago better then both of them. I then opened the list and saw them ranked No. 2. This is a great aquarium if you have never been and pretty cheap at $8 for adults.

March 13, 201412 yr Shocked this many people hate Gatlinburg. Don't wanna deal with the traffic? Stay in the cabins or get a hotel downtown. No driving necessary the entirety of your trip. I've probably been to Gatlinburg a dozen times. I always have a blast. Plenty of trails, and nature to keep the outdoors type occupied, and plenty of shopping/restaurants to keep the touristy types busy. Seems like it's a win/win for anyone who doesn't need to be on a beach. :idunno: We would rent a huge cabin. It's the traffic driving in that makes it a nightmare. 2 hours to drive 10 miles isn't worth it for me.

March 13, 201412 yr I guess I'm the opposite. I love the Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge area, but we don't leave the cabin to often. Plus whenever I went, it was mostly college friends getting crazy. I'd probably feel very differently about it with kids. I'm with you on this...we went with a group of about 5 couples and rented a huge cabin. Left the kids at home and acted like we were on spring break again. I have gone twice like this and haven't left the cabin yet. Sat in the hot tub, sat on the deck, sat on the couch, basically sat around drinking and having a good time while enjoying a fire, hot tub, and awesome view.

Have you ever taken the side road? Right by the aquarium, if you veer right, instead of heading straight into downtown you can typically get around downtown in about 5 minutes. We always do that and avoid driving downtown like the plague.

March 13, 201412 yr Gatlinburg. Never understood the attraction to the "Hillbilly Paris." That place is the poster child of tourist traps. It PALES in comparison to Branson, MO. Awful with a capital AW. We stayed at Table Rock Lake. Thankfully, we made one trip into Branson, and the whole crowd said enough!

March 13, 201412 yr Disney World in July for me...you couldn't pay me enough money to go to Disney World in the summer and stand in lines with that heat.
