Covington Catholic article shows possible KHSAA violation - Appears Unfounded

Featured Replies

As long as they aren't 'students' it is cool? Seems like the way it is written makes it a gray area.

Do other schools do that? Practice with college players or people who have played some college ball?

No clue. It sounds like a gray area, but if we're going by the actual wording of the rules, it doesn't sound like they were in violation. I could be wrong, but the way I read it, no rules were broken.

Seriously, what is happening in here?

If we're interpreting the rules to exclude anyone who is not an eligible high school player, then if an assistant coach jumps on the floor to run drills with the kids, he is technically in violation of the rule.

That's why this provision doesn't mean what some of you think it does.

How can you be a former college player and still a player on the team which deems you ineligible? Maybe I didnt read it correctly.

Again, that's talking about students. These weren't students.

So wouldn't that make them ineligible students if they aren't students? The way you are interpreting the rule Holmes players could come and participate in a CCH practice. They aren't eligible CCH students either.

That rule also says that boys can't practice against the Girl's team. Really? That isn't allowed?

That's been the case for a long time. I remember when Roy Bowling made his coaching return at North Laurel, he went to one of his old stand-by routines of having the girls practice against boys to toughen them up. Cost them one of their scrimmages as a penalty.

When it says students, I assume they're saying eligible high school students, thus kids from other high schools would be ineligible.

Nothing seems to be in violation to me. I believe what CCH did, a lot of schoos do or have done

Every school in the state would be guilty if this was the case. Put a camera in every gym and they all would be guilty at some point. Non issue in my opinion. It's amazing what some people will post on here to get things stirred up. I'm not a CCH fan just a fan of the game. Every school at some point in the season does what CCH has done if they say they don't there lying. Let it go.

It looks to me like all the regulations apply to "Students" that are not eligible, based on the guidelines listed. I don't think any of these rules apply to non-students. I know baseball teams regularly bring in college and former college players to pitch BP. I don't think there is any problem here.

It's a legitimate question since the kid from CCH mentioned it first in a public article. If a team won the Sweet 16 and in the postgame interview the coach says that he is glad he was able to convince player X to transfer in to his program would you raise an eyebrow or would you say no big deal everybody does it?

Seems like kids who already graduated from high school and played college ball would be ineligible also but the use of the words students makes it really gray.

I never knew that. Seems like that is something that wouldn't be a big deal at all.

Start watching at 53 seconds and that about sums it up...

Not a game...not a game.....not a game.......we talking about practice....not a game...:lol2: :lol2:
