CovCath can absolutely make it to Sunday at 2:00 (State Finals). To get there, they will have to beat Clay County, likely PRP (who, can be up and down, they beat Ballard but lost to Western, Lou. Holy Cross, and Fern Creek).

 

If CCH gets past them they would likely play Knott County Central or Wayne Co. All winnable games.

 

Then in finals against either Ballard or Scott Co. (iif seeding holds up)

 

Now, Check back in two weeks and see that all of this will be completely way off. LOL.

A Final word on Holmes. They don't go down easy. Booher is a fantastic coach. Holmes may have not had an organized cheering section like CCH but they definitely did come out and represent. Nice crowd.

 

I thought (and said on here multiple times) from day one that this Holmes team could not just easily replace the three starters from last year. Engelmon, Palmer and Coston were nice players who WOULD hit that 3 pt. shot. (3 for 27) That said, just shows how good Booher is to put a big time scare and almost got back again.

1st, Congrats to Holmes on another great season. CCH & Holmes have had 3 great games this year & everyone would agree that they’re very evenly matched. Holmes played hard & has nothing to be ashamed about. Another great season for the Bulldogs.

 

CCH jumped out to an early lead and was in control for the entire 1st half. They did a great job defensively of not allowing penetration, but Holmes was able to find the soft spot in the zone on several occasions. I thought they’d continue to attack the middle, but Holmes didn’t adjust well.

 

Bolden is a great HS player, but he was forcing things last night. 3 of 18 is not good, and at least 2 of those 3 makes came late on back-to-back possessions. He had a couple shots rim out, but he also had several airballs/bricks. Overall I thought he forced things too much last night.

 

Chames (Holmes #25) played like a man last night. Great game by Chames, with a couple dunks mixed in. His 4th foul was VERY cheap (illegal screen on Ruthsatz). He almost single-handedly kept Holmes in the game for a while last night.

 

Cov Cath bigs delivered another solid performance. Schuh & Schult do a good job of protecting the rim and gobbling up rebounds. They finally started putting a body on Chames in the 2nd half and started pushing him out of the lane, which is exactly what needed to be done. Bo floated around the perimeter a little too much for my liking, but overall played a solid game.

 

CCH could have iced it earlier if they made their FT’s late, but it made for a more entertaining & intense finish.

Another great crowd & atmosphere at BOKC. The ColonelCrazies did a great job of getting the CCH side involved (much to the chagrin of the BOKC staff).

 

All in all, a gritty performance by both teams.

Most people from the 9th openly root for their brethren down state because of the perceived lack of respect (which is fading away of late). Believe me, I howled when Holmes got jobbed a bit vs. Madison Central on a few late calls last year, but let it go. I have no affiliation with Holmes, just a fan of the 9th teams.

 

This year's draw is very beneficial to the 9th, but you still have to win the games in front of you. There will be upsets.

I really don't care who won or how they do, I thought the post I was responding to was weak and an appropriate response.

I have to think that any basketball fan enjoyed the game last night, regardless of your cheering interest. From a pure basketball perspective, Cov Cath put on an absolute clinic in the 1st half. They made great passes, hit the open man, got easy buckets in transition and played exceptionally well as a team. It looked too easy for the Colonels in the 1st quarter/half, but you knew Holmes wouldn't just roll over.

Most significant infusion to a 9th Region Program in a long long time IMO. If there is no Ruthsatz family in NKY IMO they dont win the Region or have as much success as they have had the past 3 yrs. Great player and great coach. Whoever went out and found him should be rewarded in a big way.

 

I hope I get this point across without taking away from Nick's leadership & outstanding play on the court. As good as Nick is, and he is very good. But I believe in the big picture, Scott Ruthsatz & his coaching staff is what has made the biggest difference to the program. The entire culture has changed within the CCH basketball program. They now develop player skills, instilling toughness, play hard nosed defense, players give 110% or they don't play, they play for championships....

this is not your dad's CovCath basketball program! It is far better.

Agree 100%. Coach Ruthsatz changed the culture. His program swept all 3 divisions in the 9th region this season - Freshman, JV, and Varsity all won regional titles. That's a great accomplishment in just 3 years at the helm!

With this said won't it be even worse next year. Doesn't Holmes have 6-7 seniors on the team this year? I know Hill and Chames are gone. Not looking to far ahead to next year but where do they go for size as I am sure they will see nothing but zone next season as well. Different thread I know but something to ?

Big S/O to CCH and I hope they do well next week and give NKY something to cheer for. They clearly were the better team last nite and congrats to Holmes for not quitting and fighting back like I knew they would.

 

With that said Holmes lost this game with their outside shooting of course but they totally got away from what brought them back. Being patient and getting the ball to Hill at the free throw line. He made a lot happen in the 2nd and 3rd qtrs and they, for whatever reason, totally abandon him in the 4th. He had I believe 9pts at half and finished with only 13? He and Chames owned the offensive glass during the run. I like both teams but hated to see the jacking up of unnecessary 3s during crunch time.

Final thought to the poster who said CCH would win by 15. You obviously don't know the deep history of these two teams as there is no quit in either of them. I said it would be a 4-5 point game either way and I was dead on.

Bolden alone makes Holmes a contender. They lose a lot of height and may start 5 guards. They have talent and always will. They need Moore to improve a lot over the summer, he is a big kid with the injury bug really hurting his developing. I still see NCC as the class of the region, but they need to get that 9th region tourney off their back.

 

I believe CCH will miss Ruthsatz a lot, but CVH should be even better, so they will be a force with their program depth.

1. CCH (for reasons given)

2. NCC (for reasons given but lose Moeves but still have the younger one but I still think guard play may put them behind CCH)

3. Cooper (sleeper, yes lost Z. Mcneil but return S. McNeil, Hathorn 6-5, Leichty,

Hawkins 6-6 all starters at some point in the season and players from the JV team that went 16-4 and lost to the CCH JV team in the region championship)

4. Holmes (Return Bolden and McClendon yes but lose far too much size with the graduation of Chames and Hill and the other seniors)
