Covington Catholic 56 Holmes 51 (9th Region Final)

Heard a rumor that Coach Ruthsatz might not be back next year at CovCath so that he can follow his son. Any truth to this?

Again, just a rumor I heard from someone else.

There is a whole "Scott Ruthsatz" thread on the topic.

Since Panda was on the beach (Well Deserved, IMO), here is a link to our pics of the game.

Do you have photographic credentials? If so try shooting a quarter from under the basket. You can get some great shots from there.

For this game, there was 10-12 photographers there...

I thought they looked pretty good.

Unfortunately, I was BROADCASTING the game. These were from our guy that we had there.

Does anyone know the last player to score 30 or more in the 9th region finals?

Great question. No clue.

I remember Danny Noll from CCH putting up over 30 but I don't think that was in the finals.

It's a strong staff. As I've said before Joe Fredrick is a big help to Scott and the rest of the staff. I'm always fascinated with watching coach/player interaction before and during games. If you noticed Bo having some bounce in his step in the tourney a lot of that has to do with Joe. Joe got him going during warmups and kept him going during TOs. Same with CVH who is Joe's #1 project. Some of it's basketball skill stuff but it's also mental stuff. Joe can get a boy fired up and ready to go. Damn good coach.

Joe's energy is contagious, you hit the head on the nail with Bo having the bounce. I have commented several times to BGP'ers on the bond he has with CVH. The players gravitate to him because he has competed at a very high level. Watch him during the warm ups under the basket getting the kids pumped. He still will be the best shooter in the building next Thursday!

This has been Holmes' arrangement the entire season. Even when Bolden was running point he rarely if ever guarded the opposing PG, but rather it was always McClendon, Housely, or Herndon up top. I was puzzled by it so I asked a local college coach for his thoughts, and he informed me that many coaches -- himself included -- try to avoid putting their best offensive player on the opposing team's best offensive player. He said something along the lines of, "That's not where I want his energy being spent." This might not be the explanation for every situation and other coaches may disagree, but I see the line of reasoning.

It has been that way for many years, do you know many offensive minded players that can even spell defense,,,,bottom line it is that way to keep the big offensive player out of foul trouble and in the game,,

Arrez Henderson?

Was Holmes' best player in 08 and always defended the best offensive player of the oppposing team as well. One of the more complete players to come through the region in a while.

Could get to the rim and finish with authority and had a decent outside shot. Averaged close to 20 ppg his senior year.

I'm pretty sure Todd Clark did it in 94. Not sure anyone has since then.

Congratulations CovCath.
