I've known Mike for quite a few years and he is as good a coach and person as you will find! He will do outstanding!! Congrats to Mike!

Agreed. Hope Mike Woolf decides to stay and we enjoy success with Mike and Mike. Both are good men no doubt.

So what was the reason for him not being considered for the LC job if he was the "assistant head coach" there?

 

Something tells me the pool of candidates for this job was thinner than most think.

 

Who said he wasn't considered? Public schools have more money to offer coaches and teachers. What if he was looking for a place to make more $$ ?

SO if all coaches are staying if that is what I am gathering, then why not give the job to Woolf and hire him the best Offensive Coordinator out there. Makes no sense to me.

Maybe he was not being kept by Coach Perry at Lex Cath and needed a new job colonel ? Cant imagine after 24 years in private he is looking to all of a sudden get into KY PRS system.

That's precisely what Rick Hornsby did when he went from Cov Cath to Ludlow. It wasn't because he didn't like Cov Cath (he's still on Cov Cath's sports hall of fame committee as a matter of fact). Fact is, retirement in the public school system is far better than what the Catholic school system can offer. The main complaint with the program was the lack of offensive production. The defense while suffering many injuries fell apart later in the year. If Mr. Engler will put the kids that can play on the field and screw the daddyball philosophy. We should be fine. We have weapons who made some outstanding plays later in the year last year. When given the chance they proved they could compete and play. We failed to get them the touches it takes to move the ball. Some of the kids who had good numbers had the least touches? That being said I hope to see some fireworks soon. We have a hell of an incoming Junior class, and some good Seniors. An oustanding incoming class of sophomores. This should make football at Ryle in the next three years exciting again. The choice for Coach is made like it or leave it it's time to rally the kid's and move forward.

Welcome coach Engler. I wish you good luck. You have a Great group of young men to work with. You also have some Very good coaches that love Ryle and love teaching these young men about football and life. I will be rooting for you and your team.

Engler should bring some spark to the offense. He favors the pass-oriented spread offense and that should put up more that the 17 points that was the highest Ryle scored in a game last season.

Wish Coach Woolf had gotten the job. He had earned the right to give it a shot. To be passed on for another assistant is a slap in the face. The coach they hired applied for the Campbell County job when Coach Lickert was hired but was not part of the final two. I hope he does great because the faithful in Union have not proven to be a patient bunch. He has talent to be successful right away if he can get them all headed in the right direction. What indication is there that Engler won't be bringing or assembling his own staff? I wonder if he has any idea how many 'assistants' he has on that very very very crowded sideline.
