Turner hired lexcaths sloppy seconds and thirds.

All this negative talk about the new coach by Ryle supporters makes this entire thing somewhat ironic.

 

From an outsiders view this is what has been portrayed over the past few seasons.

 

Big problem was the amount of dads that made up the coaching staff and led to favoritism or at least the perception of that.

 

The Union Mafia having too much say in what happens within the program....perception or not?

 

Stagnant offense which led to poor play and rough seasons.

 

The powers that be decide to make a change. With the change many on the inside are hoping for better results and to turn the program around for the better. Yet they are upset that one of the current coaches isn't hired. They are upset that an outsider was hired yet they wanted change.

 

Sorry but it still sounds like one of the biggest problems of the past is still rearing its head.....parents still want to run the program and the coaches.

 

I say it would be nice to allow the coach to bring on who he wants and start his own legacy at Ryle, but for some strange reason I don't see that happening especially with the same people who complained about the last coaching staff already complaining about the new hire even before he gets started.

 

All I can say is good luck Coach Engler, you are going to need it.

Yes, you get an offensive guy, but tonights game proves you win with defense and a group that believes in their coach. IMO, Woolf would have been the best choice to get the current athletic group ready to buy into the system in the next three years. Ryle will be an interesting program to follow after this hire.

There's nothing wrong with dads coaching if the dads know to coach to his strengths and not their kids. i have coached my kids for years, but every kid I coach gets equal attention if not more. A "GOOD" coach coaches his knowledge and experience to the team not a specific kid. If they don't fit that model, they should not be coaching.

How can you expect anything different when there were allegedly two parents on the interview committee. Also, the athletes were given an opportunity to voice what they wanted as a head coach. I'm not complaining about the hire. The process was a joke and the existing state of affairs with parents won't change. Winning fixes everything but can they win now!

I Believe that the talent level and effort level will have them primed to win now. The ultimate factor will be the coach getting them to buy in, and how well he can organize and utilize who he has. I can say this and know it's true. Most of those kids are use to winning " middle school, froshball, JV " and losing is killing them. Even with the adversity they have faced they will not give up. They will compete to the best of their ability to the last play regardless of the score.These kids have allot of heart and character. That is how you can define them.

Congrats to Coach Engler!! I have worked with him in the past and he is a great guy. Very bright coach on the cutting edge of the game.

IMHO, I think they have GREAT character, Play for one another, support one another, are humble and are better overall than some of the other groups.

I'm really excited to see Boone and Ryle hire 2 quality coaches from outside the area to bring some new blood to NKY.

Wish Coach Woolf had gotten the job. He had earned the right to give it a shot. To be passed on for another assistant is a slap in the face. The coach they hired applied for the Campbell County job when Coach Lickert was hired but was not part of the final two. I hope he does great because the faithful in Union have not proven to be a patient bunch. He has talent to be successful right away if he can get them all headed in the right direction. Woolfe was not slapped in the face. There are 3 types of schools who hire from within.

 

Type 1: We are pleased with the direction of the program. The previous coach either retired or moved on to a better job and we want to continue the positive momentum and culture we have.

 

Type 2: We don't care, or we aren't willing to give a football coach an ISS job or something in the building. Hiring someone already here is just easier and we like easy.

 

Type 3: Super assistant stab, stab, stabbed the head coach in the back till he bled out and the ignorant admin hand the job to super coach.

 

Ryle is none of those 3 so I had my money on an outside hire from day 1. It seems obvious when you look at the way coaches are hired.

Most of us are ok with it. We all feel for Mike Woolf, some to the point of rage it appears. But it seems by the program that Engler came from and the personal endorsements we've heard, he'll do well here. Can't please everyone all the time.
