Purple, someone that wants the job. Hodge is competitive and this will be the knock against him. Because his name has been and will be mentioned for a lot of jobs (this makes him a bad guy), on the other hand if he was a loser. Then he would be looking for another reason. This is what I do not understand. Other coaches/fans/loyalist will bash coaches that build a program say like a Bourbon/Casey/or another non-traditional WINNING programs. They will say things or make things up that are not true just because these programs are not suppose to be successful. I have even heard said they were cheating because these programs are not capable of winning.

 

The Hodge to Garrard County is not going to happen......they had their chance when they hired Scenters and they blew it. I will tell you my opinion why they didn't hire Coach Hodge.......first he was a token interview to begin with and was never really being considered....second I would say he didn't tell them he would be a "yes" person and finally back then GCHS was not going to hire someone with GCHS ties. They may now but not then with person was doing the hiring and the people running the high school!

The reason I think Jerry Perry is the pick? Well to start off, he went 65-18 from 1990-1996. He is also very disciplined and would have those kids (who need a little discipline in sports) respecting him on and off the field. He's my pick hands down.

You have a Superintendent that understands the importance of every aspect of a school system. This is huge today. 90% of a Supt problems comes from 10% of what they have say so in. However, Mr. Mullins will not fall into this trap, he realizes the importance of what this means to the community, know different to his employment. Question do you want Stability? Great Program? and Respect?, but do not care how long someone is willing to stay then Perry is the best. On the same note and looking for a long haul coach which is 5+ years today (Hodge or Jaggers), both very quality coaches that are going to get results. I feel the same about Hester as about Perry, but when you follow a good as he did then you do not get the respect you deserve. You must remember this is a business decision, and I can assure you Mullins how important this is.

 

I don't get the comparison of the two sets of coaches? Hodge has been tremendous in two years. Perry was (while at GCHS) and is one of the top coaches around.

So sad to hear this. A coach with a strong will to succeed and do it their way is often labeled in a negative way by people that want it to be the way it has always been. That type of thinking is why Hodge or Perry would have some struggles as the HC at Garrard. On the other hand if the Super. is as good as some people are saying maybe he will demand the best coach is brought in and given what they want and need to stay the long haul and be successful.

He use to teach in the system and coached the middle school team.......can't speak for him but I think something may have when down at that time but at the same time he applied for the job the last time and was passed over.

 

And not everyone is gone......there is one major player left from the last time!!!!

I really don't think politics plays as big a roll in the hiring process at GCHS as some of you may think. In 1990 they hired Jerry Perry (Asst Danville), in 1997 They hired Jeff Hester (Asst Garrard), In 2001 they hired Steve Stonebraker (HC Casey), In 2008 (I think) they hired Mark Scenters (Asst Madison Central). Jeff was the only in house hire and rightly so. I don't think any of the other guys had any strong ties to anyone in the area. Scenters probably had some ties on east end of county possibly. When Perry was hired, I think they originally went after Marty Jaggers, but he decided to stay at Etown, thinking he was in line their. When they hired Scenters, I think I remember they met with Perry, but he thought he would be the next coach at Danville. I think they have reached out several times, when they have had openings. I think they have basically made decisions based on the resources that are absolute. They are like tons of other schools. The key is to step out of the norm and make a decision to truly be above the norm. Don't just hire a coach. Be prepared to bring in a complete staff. If you want to be special, then make it happen.

But they should settle their differences and move on IMO. The reason people didn't like Hodge last year? Because he beat the tar out of us. What a resume'.................but wasn't good enough to be considered to be the head coach at Garrard County! SMH!!!!!

I can remember the days when Coach Perry was there and on a Friday night home game it is was five and six rows of cars deep in the endzone where the scoreboard is located, so hopefully they will because that community will support their athletic teams monetarily and otherwise......cross your fingers things will be different this time!

Perry, Hodge, Hester are all WINNERS!!! with Garrard ties. Unless the Supt. makes this decision, then it will turn out like a famous story in the Bible when Jesus could not overcome the ignorance of his own people. It amazes me year after year to see programs that will not give their own a chance to do something special. This is usually what happens when people that have been put in a leadership role cannot get 5 people to folllow them, but a good football coach and unite a community. Again, this Superintendent has seen these things transpire many times, and I believe he will bring in someone that will unite from above list, even if it hurts someone's feelings or causes them to lose some attention.
