Should We Be An Eye For An Eye Society?

Featured Replies

Not an eye for an eye person, but do believe the DP should be carried out in without a doubt premeditated murder cases. I could care less how they execute them. However, life in prison without parole, I can live with.

James Madison once wrote something that was endorsed and respected at one time. I am pro death penalty, put a bullet in his head, instant death is justified in this case but there's no reason to make someone suffer. They do that abroad.

Lock em up and throw away the key sounds ok' date=' except that tax payers are on the hook for paying for his room, board, and health care for the rest of his life. There are truly evil people in this world who have no regard for your life and the lives of those you love. I have no problem with the death penalty in certain situations. I personally have no sympathy with how this man died. That fact that his family is considering suing reinforces that he came from equally quality people.[/quote']

I have read that executing someone is more expensive in the end than it is to keep someone in jail for their entire life.

I have no problem with the DP. If a murderer gets life without parole, he gets to live, 3 squares a day, rehabilitate him/herself, see his/her family, possibly change his/her life, gets closer to God, all this for FREE. Who rehabilitates the family of the person he/she murdered? It sure isn't free and it sure isn't payed for by the taxpayers.

I'm against the death penalty in most cases, but I don't think the fact a punishment isn't a deterrent has any relevance. Punishment is to punish the guilty nothing more nothing less.

My post was in response to it being a deterrent.

I am against the DP ONLY because there are cases where we find out later that someone who has been convicted should never have been convicted.

This thread, though, is to debate cruel and unusual ways of dying.

I may be getting cold hearted as I age and see my taxes be wasted all the time. But, if, without a doubt, eye witnessed by multiple people that someone killed another then I believe a hanging on fountain square the next day should be done. No need to drag it out in courts and waste money. All those on death row costing us millions, put them to sleep now. This opens up the jail space we don't have now when we have to release those arrested due to no space.

Couldn't agre more. I get so tired of dragging out so many court cases and wasting tax dollars on housing the guilty beyond a reasonable doubt for years.

Btw, you are old lol.

If you're man enough to take someone's life in a violent manner, then you don't deserve a decent death yourself. He got off easy. Maybe the family should have been forced to view images of multiple deaths of rape victims just prior to the execution. I bet then his brief moment of uncomfortableness wouldn't bother them so much. Eye for an eye or even crime for crime (die the way you took someone's life).

We're better than that.

If you plan and execute the murder of another human being, I have zero sympathy for you. No "lock him up and throw away the key," send them to death row and let them pay the consequences.

Totally agree but with a quick..painless.. Death.

I'm for if you kill a kid then you die.

The death penalty is not a deterrent, but then again, prison, fines, etc don't seem to be much of a deterrent either as crimes are committed every day. Ultimately though, I have a hard time justifying the death penalty, and don't understand how anyone who claims to be a christian can support the death penalty, while believing in the 10 commandments.....doesn't one of them read "thou shalt not kill"?? Couple that with the fact that so many innocent folks have been exonerated after being convicted, the death penalty just doesn't seem like a good idea. And really, isn't putting someone to death the epitome of a cruel and unusual punishment??

So can a Christian serve in the military and kill an enemy? Isn't killing a terrorist the same as killing someone who raped, tortured, murdered a 8yr old girl. They terrorized her and would do it again if not caught or set free.

Don't get me wrong, I understand. But for those who literally interpret the bible (such as those that use it to condemn homosexuality), how do you justify killing another person. The commandment is "thou shalt not kill" not "thou shalt not kill, unless (insert crime)". We condemn those that kill in the name of religion, and label those folks as enemies. But yet our religion specifically tells us NOT to kill, but we do so anyway as long as we can justify doing so. If judgement is truly up to God, then how can we possibly sign off on killing another person, for ANY reason?? Who are we to go against the word of God, simply because WE think it's right.

Maybe I'm just overthinking things.....
