Reds keeping Homer Bailey?

For $8 - $11 million, I agree.

I'd take Leake for 6. Cingrani, Latos, Cueto are the main 3 with Leake, maybe WBP or Chapman if the new skip thinks so. With all due respect to Homer, I've never seen a guy with such electric stuff go from no-no to oh-no at break neck speed.

Great question. Pitching is expensive, but I don't consider either of them top of the rotation arms. I'd probably go with Leake for $6 just because he's cheaper.

I start to hesitate once you get into the $10-$11 million range for Homer, especially if you're talking about a long-term deal. Homer still has plenty of upside but he hasn't done it on a consistent basis. Too much of a gamble for a team with limited financial capabilities.

Homer is so inconsistent to even warrant a 11 million dollar deal. He will pitch like an ace one day then 5 days later and get lit up like a Christmas tree.

I think Homer's best years are ahead of him. I am not sure i wouldn't rather have him instead of Cueto. I am not sure Cueto will stay healthy. I would like to see them offer Homer a 3 year $30 million deal.

32 starts.

21 gave up 3 or less ER

7 gave up 4 ER

4 5+ run games

So a third of the time he pitches like a turd. No thanks

Bailey will be 28 years old this season. His numbers have improved every year the last 4 years I believe. I honestly believe he's only to get better. I do everything I can to sign him to a long term deal.

While 4 ER isn't great in today's game it certainly isn't a "turd."

Latos had 5 4 ER games and 3 5+ ER games in 33 starts.

What is your top dollar for Homer?

In 2013 Latos was 19th in MLB in innings and Homer was 21st.

Homer was 40th in MLB in ERA. 150+ starting pitchers in MLB.

Homer was 16th in MLB in WHIP.

Homer was 13th in MLB in Ks.

Homer was 35th in MLB in quality starts.

4 year $52 million. Then again, it's not my money.

The problem is Homer has improved every year for four years and was still a robust 11-12:idunno:

With Robert Stephenson hopefully being ready by 2015, I really don't think there is a need for Bailey to be here. He's to inconsistent for the Reds to throw that money at him. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it, but for what the Reds have/need they can't afford that.

Extremely wishful thinking, that's not going to get it done.
