Again, as I pointed out earlier and despite what a lot of people perceive Homer had a strong season AS COMPARED to the rest of the MLB starting pitchers. If you choose not to pay Homer $10M, $12M, or $14M how would that money be best spent? If we assume payroll isn't going up much what should the priority be? Get rid of BP and use part of his salary for paying the 3 starting pitchers? Run with Leake as 3, Cingrani as 4 , and a rookie/journeyman at 5? Bob doesn't have easy decisions to make.
January 21, 201412 yr My prediction: Latos wins 18, Cingrani wins 12, Leake wins 10, Cueto gets hurt, wins 7, WBP stays and wins 12. There are another 6 wins from "staff" starts because of the slack Cueto leaves. That's 65 wins from the starting rotation.

January 21, 201412 yr I think you're correct on what the rotation would look like, and therefore let me reiterate that I can't believe anyone thinks this is still a 90 win team. The Reds aren't now, nor likely ever going to be, in a position to have three $10-12+ million earning starting pitchers. That said, has Leake even been good enough to be on a post-season roster yet? I'm not going to look it up, but wasn't he left off the roster against SF last year? Not that it matters for one-game, but was he on the Pittsburgh roster this year? I said as it currently stands, you are making some awful big assumptions. With Homer in the rotation that's a really good starting 5.

I put as much stock in Leake winning 14 games again as I put in you winning 14 games. Leake made unbelievable strides forward last year, and while I really hope that is an indication of things to come, I look at it more as a bounce. Again, I hope I'm wrong and he is a solid and dependable guy going forward.

Notice everyone was throwing out their rotations without Homer...so that was the assumption we were making. If Homer is back, with Latos, Cueto, Cingrani and someone (Leake, I assume), yeah, that is a solid bunch. Like if BP is at 2B they are better offensively. I just doubt either of those things are the case.

That equates to wins. If Homer had similar location, he'd be an 18 win guy. Just sayin'.
