April 22, 201412 yr B/c Reds fans watch the games at a pretty good clip. What does that have to do with anything? The way TV $$ are driven up is when two entities compete. Who is going to compete for the Reds next TV contract?
April 22, 201412 yr B/c Reds fans watch the games at a pretty good clip. Who cares? FS Ohio, like every other cable TV network, makes money on subscription fees. The added bonus of ad-revenue is nice, but regardless of how good their ratings are, you can only drive so much per spot in Cincinnati. Regardless, why would they voluntarily pay more when there is nowhere for the Reds to go? Benevolence? Not hardly. They are losing their shorts on deals with the Jackets and Cavs, plus they just bought SportsTime Ohio, so the well is getting dry. Mix in that fewer and fewer homes are using pay-TV, and you can see their concern.

They're essentially unrelated. For those who have been around BGP for a while you'll remember what I always refer to in contracts or holdouts: leverage. Right now the Reds have no leverage regardless of how many fans will watch.

If the Reds fail to sign Latos nor Cueto because of the Bailey contract then we can ALL agree signing Homer was a bad move. Until we determine that the Reds signed a pitcher by using the market as their guide. Will it be wise? We'll see.

If I knew you needed my network (just spitballing here), you don't think I'd use that information to my advantage?
