When Mrs. S told me about this and I saw it on the news the other night, I thought, Wesley Chapel? Wow.

 

Just FYI, Wesley Chapel is a community in what's called "New Tampa" on the north side of Hillsborough County/Southeast Pasco County. Basically everything is new and clean up there. 25 years ago it was swampland. It's home to mostly retiree's with reasonably good pensions, upper middle class families, and up and coming singles who can't quite afford Avalon or Cheval, yet (where the real money is, here). Tampa Palms is up that way, too.

What surprised me about all of this was the shooters background in

law enforcement.

Why? Trust me there are tools in all walks of life.

Evidently not. He is claiming self defense, he obviously felt it was justified.

The dude that ended up getting shot sounds like a complete tool, throwing popcorn on a guy (I mean really?), but shooting a guy over texting during the previews??? It's reported that two weeks earlier he followed a woman out of the theater because she was texting during the movie. He needs to be locked up for the rest of his life.

Obviously the shooter is a loose cannon but what harm is there in texting at a movie, unless the sound for keying is still turned up.

This idiot is the kinda guy who is gonna get stand your ground revoked. Hope they understand the difference between the law and a person who is at the end of his life and needs help.

The first line of the article states that he was texting during the PREVIEWS! Shooter was off his rocker.

I read about this story this morning. I think he was actually texting with his daughter's daycare. The daughter is very young so it probably wasn't her.

 

Defense attorney, without saying Stand Your Ground, said essentially that his client felt threatened when the victim threw a bag/box of popcorn at him during the altercation.

 

A witness came forward and said the same guy had threatened her at a movie over the same issue - texting.

 

Catching a flick while your daughter is stuck in daycare...solid.

Don't think they've said, but honestly for myself it could be on silent and still be a distraction. Screens on smart phones now days are about the size of your hand and light up extremely bright. If you're sitting behind or to the right/left of someone that's using their phone it's very noticeable and can be distracting. The movie theaters even talk about this before movies start. They mention that even texting on a phone is rude and not to do it or you will be asked to leave. Sad how quickly this escalated though.
