How cold is the water? I was talking to my family about getting my parents and my brothers and their wives/kids to make a big group trip up there, but they're all worried about the water being too cold for most of my nephews....there's seven of them and they range in age from 1-8 years old.

It is a tad cold. Never gets to 80 degrees and even in July it might be 70.

I loved the Domincan when we went this summer.

Beaches are great!

The people are excellent as well; this was my 2nd trip and I love it.

Stayed at one of the RIU resorts this year. Nice place pretty good food

for all inclusive.

We always go during dead period and its not warm but its not so cold you can't get in. I always thought it was just right. Refreshing. Like Clyde said somewhere in the 70's.

That's a great point you brought up. We also would and could only vacation during dead period. This will be the first Summer in a long time that we can actually vacation anytime in the summer!!!!!!! Wow...that opens up all kinds of opportunities now lol.

I just went to Indian Shores, Florida this year and loved it. It is very quite with beautiful beaches, clear water and no crazy tourist traffic, but It is right between Clearwater and St. Pete so it is very short drive if you want the crowded tourist stuff. We'll be going back and I'd recomend it to anyone.

I used to live 2 blocks from Indian Rocks Beach, before Elaina took out the pier. It used to be even less touristy than it is, now.

George, come on down. I'm always in favor of tourism. It keeps my property taxes down. :D

The Outer Bank are cool. Just spent Thanksgiving there. We went to Seaside' date=' FL last year. Really small community. It is actually where the Truman Show was filmed. Seaside was awesome and the beaches were not that crowded.[/quote']Second this. Awesome place. Theres a red dog cafe or something similarly named that's there or real close. It's dang good.
Hilton Head
Love Hilton Head. We used to go and spend a day or two in Savannah as well.
Hilton Head: Like it a lot. The public access beach can get REALLY crowded so try to get a condo or stay at a hotel that has their own section. Lots of food choices. Charleston: May be my favorite if you mean Folly Beach. It's the truest beach town feel of any beach area outside of Hawaii that I've been to. Plus you have Charleston and all of its food and scenery only 15 minutes away. Destin: Yes if we're talking 20 years ago. Way too crowded now IMO. Siesta Key is my second favorite beach. Outside of Sarasota. GREAT beach. I've never been to Myrtle Beach. Seems too t-shirt shop /putt-putt for me. Not well known but nice is St Simons Island ' date=' GA which is north of Jacksonville. Nice feel to it. Hour drive to Savannah. I've only been to the Outer Banks area once. OK. Not great. I like laid-back beaches. I'm not into the expensive areas that also have a beach so...[/quote']Seems like we look for the same things in beaches. Don't go to Myrtle Beach, it sucks.

I've been last two years. But we still throughly enjoyed it. The short drive is awesome and there is a lot to do. But we didn't spend too much time in the water.

Depends on what you are looking for. I'm retiring at North Myrtle Beach.

Siesta Key

We love it down there. Have stayed at seacrest apts many times. On the south end of crescent beach. Simple, beautiful, good price.

We stayed near there in a condo right on the beach. Good end to be on. Cool little pub south of there.
