Vacation

Featured Replies

Hold up, you just told me in another thread the other day that you were traveling less due to gas prices now you're telling about all of the beaches you've been to the last few years. :D

I went this year and that was the first time in 7 years but prior to that yea we did go on vacation.

Hawaii is in the U.S. It's the nicest place I've been.

Hawaii in general or the beaches? We were at two beaches when we were there and I didn't like either, coral and lava made for hard walking in and out of the water. Hawaii in general was awesome.

Both. We went to 3 islands and saw many different beaches. Our favorite was on the east coast of Oahu. Can't remember the name of it.

The beach in Maui by our condo was not that great - rocky.

We were on North Shore and West Coast of Oahu

Been to Gulf Shores and the Outer Banks and loved both of them. We now go to Punta Gorta Florida as my husbands sister owns a house there. Can't beat staying free.....:lol2: We went last winter and stayed 3 weeks. Went a couple of times to the beaches looking for sharks teeth. Men stayed most of the time on the golf courses and I shopped.

I've been to several beaches but to me Siesta Key is by far the best, and it's not even close.

You all need to start putting prices on here. I don't have time to PM all of you for prices.

In the pictures of the Gulf Shores that I have seen the water looks more murky than in Florida. Namely the Destin, Panama City Beach area, but the prices in the Gulf Shores look like Destin prices. If I have to pay that kind of money I'm going to Jamaica. The cost is the same and the water is much prettier in Jamaica.

Everything seems overpriced to me.

I still love North Myrtle Beach if I am staying in the states. It's the least expensive U.S. beach vacation that we can find.

If you hadn't gone on vacation in a little while and you wanted to go to a place with a beach, where would you all recommend (in the U.S.)?

In the US??????

OK, Hawaii wins hands down. The best beaches you will ever see.

But for some reason I don't think you were including Hawaii.

I'm like PP92 for the money I spend I find it easier to get out of the

country and enjoy the beaches. I'm not sure how kids would do on a 3-4

hour plane ride, but I just got back from the Dominican and it's 85 and beautiful

this time of year.

Last couple years we went up on Lake Erie. Michigan city, Indiana and Kelley island. Really enjoyed it and you can't beat the drive only 4-5 hours. Beaches are nice and no salt water. Usually rent a 4-5 bedroom house on the lake with back yard for the kids to play wiffle ball or football. Lots for the kids to do. :thumb: and no sharks

I loved the Domincan when we went this summer.

Beaches are great!

We have done the Michigan thing as well and thoroughly enjoyed it. Rented a lakehouse just north of Holland, MI on Lake Michigan. Loved it. Only a problem if you're looking for decent waves.

My favorite is St. Augustine just because of the history. My wife grew up there so she doesn't like staying much. She prefers Gulf Shores. Being from Alabama we would never go to the Shores because we wanted to leave the state LOL. She is the same way about Florida so our favorite place to go together is Gatlinburg. A few years ago we dropped the kids off in Florida for the summer and we made a road trip up toward Gatlinburg. We stopped in Savanna for a few days then drove on up toward Cherokee NC. My wife and I both have Cherokee blood in us so it was cool learning about the history of them. After 3 days we drove over the Mt. to Gatlinburg and stayed a week. We had a great time.

I would really like to do this.

How cold is the water? I was talking to my family about getting my parents and my brothers and their wives/kids to make a big group trip up there, but they're all worried about the water being too cold for most of my nephews....there's seven of them and they range in age from 1-8 years old.
