January 14, 201412 yr I don't see Christie's claims of ignorance any less credible then Obama's claims of ignorance over things (IRS targeting, if you like your doctor, fast and furious, etc.). The big difference is that Christie actually fired someone.
January 14, 201412 yr PP92 ... here is the short story. Democratic mayor in Ft. Lee NJ (NJ side of the George Washington bridge) doesn't support Christie's re-election. A couple of people in Christie's administration don't like it so they make up some fake work order for the GW bridge that creates a huge traffic nightmare in Ft. Lee. News leaks that the work may have been faked. Christie backs his people and says no way that could happen. Then it comes out that it was a fake work order. Christie is embarrassed and fires the people in his administration who were behind it. My comment .... We sure love to condemn our leaders don't we? No evidence that Christie had anything to do with it and yet there is talk of impeachment. Any opportunity to jump on someone's neck with both feet cannot be passed up. Why does anyone ever want to hold political office?

I should have read more than the headline. I was thinking the impeachment talk was about the bridge traffic. Regardless, the point remains that being a political leader puts a target on you that people can't wait to shoot at.

January 14, 201412 yr Dems want to impeach, full investigations. But when Bengahzi, Fast and Furious, IRS, is mentioned they shut up and act like nothing ever happened. How Dems are such hypocrites. And so are Reps. But Dems more.

But like I said I wouldn't be surprised if Christie knew about the bridge in some way. I just think in the grand scheme of things a bridge order in NJ isn't going to bug people in the rest of the country.

January 14, 201412 yr I doubt anyone outside of north Jersey cares much about the traffic. What's going to be brought up ad nauseam if Christie runs is that it's a reflection of Christie's character as a vindictive, unethical governor. Christie's largely been the front-runner because he's avoided any kind of scandal like this. His tough guy persona has always been to his benefit because he's used it to "get things done" or to cut through the normal partisan tug-of-war. This puts that persona in a different light. Who can say what kind of affect it will have on his presidential ambitions. If nothing more comes of it I imagine it will be used to ding him in the primaries and such. After his emphatic press conference the other day, if more comes to light about his knowledge or involvement then it will be a much bigger deal.

And so are Reps. But Dems more. That's my takeaway and the point I am making. Both sides are all about politics and zero about being statesmen. Decisions aren't made based on what is right, they are made based on winning votes and beating up the opposition. That is why Congress' approval rankings are much worse than Obama's. People are fed up. Something needs to change.
