December 13, 201312 yr Regardless of whether it is Trinity or Boyle County or Betsy Layne I would hope that any school wouldn't permit these people to film on their property and I hope that no school in our state allows them to film on their property. We owe these boys better.
December 13, 201312 yr Yes. Yup Even special needs kids? Problem children with mental issues? Juvenile delinquents? There's no vetting beyond the cash? I'm just not fetching it.

December 13, 201312 yr Forget it. People believe what they want to believe and are waiting in the stand for the gotcha moment. I have no agenda beyond gathering accurate and reputable information. My brother and his wife live less than a mile from Trinity, and odds are my brother's Catholic influence will win out and the nephew will be going there, which means his uncle will be spending a lot of future time there as well. A soon-to-come niece also figures to be attending a Catholic academy. However, in the interest of full disclosure, the answers to other questions of mine in this thread are interesting in terms of Trinity's — and others similar to it — projection of itself onto the greater world, as well as outsiders' perception of the school. That's unavoidable.
December 13, 201312 yr It is my understanding that there are no names on any of the financial info (tax returns, etc.) submitted to the place that handles it. If you don't pay your tuition then you either do not attend the school or if you are already attending then you are withdrawn. Probably similar to how you are evicted if you do not pay your rent. So if no names are on the financial info, then how do they know who to charge what and to whom? Don't pay your tuition? How do they know who it is, could be any student's name on the tax returns submitted to the place that handles it, right? Probably similar to "rent"? I'd think if you don't pay "rent" to a leasing office, they know exactly who you are and who to contact to get that "rent", so not sure how it compares, but that's just me. Like I've clearly stated before, I'm glad if the kids think it's in their best interest to go to Trinity and it works out that way. Great for them. I've been the dude defending Cordia while getting hammered for it (just look through my post history if you don't believe me). Just saying, I'll call a spade a spade and be realistic. Can't have your cake and eat it too. If it's "family" then you have a commitment, kind of like marriage vows, "for better or worse". Make the decision to be a part of the family and live with it. Don't throw the kid under the bus and say the film crew should be banned because it makes the school "look bad". No one was talking about banning a film crew when the Sweet 16 banner was raised, but now it's an issue. Funny how that works. I hope the kid goes to a D1, BCS program and gets all the media coverage that "fans" of the program apparently don't want him to get now. Maybe if life was so good on the "other" side, no one would be doing reality shows, eh? If you want to be a big time program, act like it, own it, and support your own. I'm for him and wouldn't care if he goes on to bigger and better things. Hopefully he doesn't need the type of "support" he's getting now if he's going to embarrass his own so badly. Poor Trinity, just didn't know what they were getting into apparently. Woe is me. Cry me a river. The reputation of the brand "might" be hurt and that's just bad. That's not what we stand for. Guess it pays to do your homework. Maybe their "admissions" will be more thorough next time if that's the case. Hope he proves everyone wrong and throws egg in faces though. If you want to turn your back and abandon now, maybe you don't deserve a player like that. Maybe the next kid who thinks about taking that "placement" test thinks of that too. I doubt other programs in Louisville don't eat their own children like that, so maybe (and just my opinion) he'd have been better off there. At least that way others could still bash, he'd be part of a more successful program and get more exposure, and at the end of the day he might just be better off... but hey, that's just a thought. December 13, 201312 yr I am not understanding your line of posting at all. I also have provided links that include access to the actual financial aid application. I don't see how for the Trinity kid PR any of the others, this reality show can be construed as a good thing for either the player or his teammates. In the article, most of these boys clearly seemed uncomfortable with the attention their mothers command. In the end, about all the questions you pose, the information is available about Trinity if you care to research it. The same is applicable to all other private schools. There are a lot of misconceptions, which I can understand. But I don't understand why people won't at least do some research before making a conclusion.
December 13, 201312 yr The financial aid is done thru a third party company in Ohio I believe. There are no names on the forms that they get. They make their judgements based off what they see on the information provided. Trinity has a way of identifying who is who. But they play zero role in deciding who gets what. Hasn't this been covered before on here...many times? Now I can't speak from experience because my parents paid my tuition while I was there, but if you do not pay the tuition then you no longer are enrolled in school. That's not a hard concept to understand. Nobody is throwing the student under the bus either. It is the reality show that people don't like. Reality shows are rarely just that. Things would be too boring to get ratings. Things are scripted and people are told to act certain ways to make things interesting.
December 13, 201312 yr And you base this exclusionary philosophy on what? Sounds to me you want to protect these young athletes from their mothers. Yes. That is exactly what I would like to see all of the schools of the state do.

I don't understand where you've even gotten to here. The discussion was about whether or not the reality show was a good idea. It isn't. You've used that to apparently jump up and down on Trinity for the entire process of admission and enrollment and I don't see why.
December 13, 201312 yr This has gone away from a reality TV show, and turned into someones personal vendetta against Trinity...
December 13, 201312 yr Even special needs kids? Problem children with mental issues? Juvenile delinquents? There's no vetting beyond the cash? I'm just not fetching it. Yes, many of special needs students are enrolled at Trinity and, as Rockmom said, Trinity's program for helping these students is exemplary and is a model for many other schools in the region. Honestly don't know about checking up on juvenile records but those are typically sealed, right? I know public school boards can sometimes get access to records... does that apply to a private board as well? Seriously, what do you guys all think goes on at Trinity on a daily basis? Still don't know how this turned into the "jump up and down on Trinity" thread since it was just a discussion over whether or not the reality show was a good idea, but we'll keep it going if that's what you guys want. I'm an alumnus and a big believer in Trinity; I'll answer any questions you have that I know the answer to and hopefully point you in the right direction when I don't.
December 13, 201312 yr Maybe if life was so good on the "other" side, no one would be doing reality shows, eh? AND THE WALLS CAME TUMBLING DOWN. Feel good to get that off your chest?
December 13, 201312 yr The discussion was about whether or not the reality show was a good idea. It isn't. Too early to tell. Reminds me of when the Covington bishop threw a fit because Notre Dame Academy allowed filming inside school for one of those "16 and Pregnant" reality shows. Surprise. What made it onto the screen turned out to be respectful of all parties involved. Image-shaping using exclusionary tactics usually backfires.

Perhaps I'm painting with too broad a brush, but reality television has hardly given me much reason to feel confident in the way the students and parents could be portrayed.
