I respect the fact that they take responsibility and choose to keep the kid Vs the cop out of an abortion. That I applaud! Plus, it does show some other teens that having a kid isn't like playing with dolls, that it is a difficult thing.

I'm with you here. I've seen that show at least a couple times and my first reaction is always about how difficult their lives are. Maybe we're not giving kids enough credit for how they respond to the show.

Like you're an expert in First Amendment issues. Censorship is the suppression of free speech or public communication. If a school allows some photogs into its gym but not others based on perceived effects of "publication," that's censorship. I would also question to what extent a private school could restrict photography at an event (basketball game) that's open to the public.

Trinity does not have to allow any cameras into their school, plain and simple. Really a shame you don't look at our President and Govt with the same skeptical eye.

I really wonder about Trinity if they really play hardball with the producers on this one. To an outsider, I think you would have to realize how this could be perceived. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

 

Unlike some of the other schools mentioned, they aren't a public school, so they didn't have to take the kid. This is the price any other big time sports programs pay. Caveat emptor?

 

It's one thing if they are looking out for the kid's best interest. It's a completely different thing if they are solely looking out for their own. I know there's more grey area than this, but I think you can infer what I'm getting at.

Let's slow this whole thing down. The kid in question has done nothing wrong and no one's talking about regretting him coming to the school and certainly no one is talking about his departure.

As others have stated, the show documented the hardships of teen pregnancy. Hardly a glorification. And on this show, the girl gave the baby up for adoption. So Catholics everywhere should applaud.

 

In the case of the basketball moms, the reality show will likely proceed whether Trinity gives its OK -- or not -- to film in its gym. (As an aside, I question how the school could keep out a film crew if it presently allows news photographers to cover games in the gym, or, for that matter, if it presently allows people to take cellphones into the gym.)

 

Frankly, I don't have much use for people or organizations who attempt to muzzle free speech.

I'll also add in that, to the best of my knowledge, no one from Trinity has said a single thing as regards the show. It was all speculation on my part and reflects my own feelings about the matter. I feel bad for even invoking Trinity's president or school board at all.

Couldn't be more wrong. I've watched tons of 16 and Pregnant episodes and also watched a majority of those girls graduate to Teen Mom, Teen Mom 2 and Teen Mom 3. It is nothing but pure exploitation at its finest and none fo those girls have learned a thing. Watching a few episodes doesn't give you an accurate view of anything. These girls are out of control and so are their boyfriends. Their burning desire to be a star shines more than anything else. Don't kid yourself.

 

I watch these shows with my wife but I like reality television. It fascinates me.

Good for you. I don't think that a school not allowing video cameras into their gyms is muzzling free speech. I think that is protecting their school and the kids of the school if they don't like the intent of the filming.

 

And you keep using Trinity as an example because the Trinity people voiced their displeasure. I'll never understand people's personal vendetta against Trinity. Jealousy is such an ugly thing sometimes.

 

As I said earlier, no school in our state should allow this filming to take place. As a black man this is nothing but the exploitation of young black males. Again.
