^Yep. Said the rain would start changing to ice mid-morning and by 1-2 this afternoon we'd be seeing snow, sometimes very heavy. :idunno:

It takes a little bit for the ground to get cold enough to freeze. The temps within the past few hours just dipped below the freezing mark and will continue to hold steady or lower through the day. Thus, the driving conditions should worsen as the day progresses.

The rain verses mix line will slowly work into central Kentucky early this morning and then proceed into eastern Kentucky late this afternoon and evening. The area from the Lexington bluegrass north and west will have the highest threat of ice and snow today. The highest amounts will be noted from Covington to Louisville and into western parts of the state. Here’s what I’m expecting:

 

 

I want to stress those totals are for sleet and snow and will vary greatly from one area to the next. That’s what happens when dealing with a mixture of precipitation types. My greatest concern is for the potential for freezing rain. The more freezing rain that falls, the lower the sleet and snow totals.

All roads to LBL have been closed. Power outages reported in Madisonville, Hopkins County area. And some reports of power lines sagging already in areas.

Do me a favor please. Days like this along with days with thunderstorms are our busiest days at work. So please unless you have an emergency do not call 911. Don't call 911 to see when your road will be cleared, don't call 911 to find out when your power will be turned back on, don't call 911 to see if the mall is closed, don't call 911 to ask how the roads are. Three unopened bottles of wine. Beer is dangerously low. Crap...gonna have to make a run to the liquor store.
