Are we overlooking/undervaluing NCC's recent playoff success?

From an NKY.com article...

Newport Central Catholic will be playing in its seventh state championship game in the last nine seasons and 11th in the last 14 seasons.

Are you kidding me? NCC has played in 11 of the last 14 state title games?

That is very impressive.

I may have missed a thread that talks about this run. Highlands current run is amazing, but other than that run is there any other state title game run like NCC has over the last 14 years?

Very impressive and it has been somewhat overlooked with the success of Highlands and Trinity. If we are just looking at the past 14 years, Mayfield, Central and Belfry are teams that come to mind who have been to multiple title games. I don't think their success is as good as New Cath's though.

I think NCC is being undervalued real bad. What they have done is special and when it comes to talk of dynasty's, they should be right close to the top of the list.

This is where the 6 classes hurt. If NewCath had this run w/ more "names" in their class, (see Mayfield and Beechwood) then we'd hear about it. If their record was a little better in the state finals, we would definitely be hearing about it. They won 4 (2005,06,10, and 12) but also lost 4 (00,01,07, and 08). People tend to forget who came in second, as unfortunate as that is. They win this, and get 3 in 4 years, people will definitely be talking more.

side note, they have played in 11 games overall. 8 in the last 14 years.

Very, very impressive run that I certainly didn't realize was as staggering as it is...

Belfry has had a pretty stellar run over the past decade as well...but it has been overshadowed by their near misses to Central in the Finals.

Belfry has reached the State Semi's 10 out of the past 11 years..reached 7 State Finals..and if they manage to beat Wayne County would have 3 State Titles.

Still that comes up way short compared to the run of NewCath you outlined.

The Pirates may have a shot at numbers like that though moving forward. Belfry will take a slight step back next year but the 3A competition in the East should be at an all-time low... then I expect a run of about 4 years where Belfry will be very "up" in their talent pool with a phenomenal Freshman Class and an 8th Grade State Championship team coming through the ranks.

And don't forget they are on their 3rd head coach during the run....longevity in the program.

Boyle's run from '99 to '10 was 7 titles and 8 Finals in 14 years. :thumb:

For showing up, NCC has done it very well for a very long period of time. Too often they are overlooked for what they have achieved in AA.

NCC I think is over looked more up north than it is around the state. From the people that I talk to about sports it seems as if as far as a program goes NCC is right there with what they've accomplished with Highlands, T and Central over the last 10 or so years.

Not bad for a "flash in the pan"

Overall record since 2000 157-42 (Top 5 in the state in wins since 2000)....not bad for the little ole school on the "hill".

Back in the 70's they weren't shabby either. Ever since coming back to Northern Kentucky they have had a very successful season each and every year. Not saying they have won State Championships but go back and look what they have done since joining NKY Football. Yes I agree with Lawnboy13 not bad for the little ole school on the "HILL". JD

According to the results listed above, this shows that NCC has made it to the finals 9 out of the last 14 years. Add this year and it is 10 out of 15 years. This information does not coincide with the article which states 11 out of 14 years. Something has to give.

However, add this year and NCC has made it to the state finals 8 out of the last 10 years which is undervalued and is very impressive. It is tougher to be consistent as a small school, and that is why NCC is extra impressive IMO.
