They are based on your record and who you play at that point in the season. It isn't a prediction about who is going to win state. When everyone hasn't seen all the teams play, you use their schedule and scores to judge them. Scott County played a weak schedule so it was hard to know what would happen when they played better teams. Simon Kenton was also questioned for the same reasons despite being undefeated. Where are they? Scott County playing in the title game proves they have a great team in spite of the weak schedule. It doesn't say to me that the rankings were wrong or that people questioning their ranking were wrong. If Scott County had played Male during the regular season and beaten them, no one would have been questioning them being ranked number one.[/quote']

 

All that to be said. In hindsight.......all that discussion was wrong. Point blank period. So people constantly dismissing a team strictly based on them not playing someone from the super district when folks that actually have seen them play try to tell folks that their legit, is foolish. That same philosophy has worked in the past due to Trinity and St X being so dominant that if one of these types of teams made it through it was really difficult for that team to get by. Not Scott county and not this year. Scott county deserved every bit of accolade they had coming, they brought back the most talent from a team that should have beaten a great Trinity team last season. It's good to see them get over the hump of the "super district".........

Didn't pay attention to the discussions much but when I did I didn't see anyone dismissing SC as most posts seemed to contain uncertainty due to their weak schedule. That seems reasonable. From what I can remember they were 2-3 the entire second half, weren't they? Given the super district success over the past 17 years that's always going to happen until you beat them.

I agree. You hit the nail on the head. I didn't really see anyone dissing SC all year. They simply (jusst like Scott HS this year) questioned the opponents they played. It's tough to see how good a team really is when their competition isn't the greatest.

 

I do however get annoyed when their fans claim they were dissed because they aren't listed as the states #1 team. They are good, but they hadn't really done anything to deserve a #1 ranking in reality. I have them #3 behind BG and HHS. Now if SC fans claim beating Male warrants them being #1, well it doesn't work that way. Male got beat by Manual who got beat by BG, so Male wasn't even #1 so beating them doesn't jump you to a spot Male didn't even have in the first place.

I was one to downplay their chances in 6A. I am a huge SOS guy. I have seen it happen over and over again. Weak schedule = inflated win total = early exit in playoffs. See Scott High School and Simon Kenton High School 2013.

 

Scott County has proven that this team, this year, regardless of a weaker than normal schedule has the team to beat. Still one to go.

How late in the year? Most of the time they were top three in the rankings, which was fine.

Coach McKee must keep the kids focused. I would think they'd be clear favorites.

Scott County was the final #1. I believe they took it over following Male's loss to Manual.

Enjoy.....they earned it......BUT...if they don't finish, it doesn't matter.
