Ashland chooses not to play Rose Hill in 2006-2007

Featured Replies

Excellent. Since we are making progress, do you think your AD and boosters would support seeding the Sweet Sixteen? Ashland's support of such a plan would obviously carry a lot of weight with KHSAA.

No, because their AD is trying to get the Sweet 16 broke up into 20 different Divisions, so there will only be 16 teams in each division. :thumb: Sorry, I couldnt help it.....

All fairness though, Ashland does have a lot of pull with the KHSAA somehow  , so any idea of theirs would have some pull.

I think it is pretty sad that we all cant just let our kids play ball and be grown adults about all of the situtations that concern the 16th Region.

Ashland doesnt want to play Rose Hill now...Rose Hill is an up and coming team with mostly local players...But Rose Hill shot their reputation in the past with the OJ show. Irregardless, they should still give the players the oppurtunity to play each other!

Ashland doesnt like to play Boyd, because of the Ramey Home players.....Yes, some of Boyd's best players in the past few years have been from the Ramey home, but that is just something that is going to happen, whether the maroon like it or not, but would you want to take the oppurtunity away from Ashland to get to play against a player like Owens?

Boyd boycotted Rose Hill and might do it again, since they love to follow right behind Ashland. No one is Boyd still knows why they do that. Everyone in Boyd wanted to play OJ and his bunch.

Bottom line is someone needs to get ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS on the same page and get the lead and grudges away from ALL OF OUR AD'S and let the kids play.

You Rose Hill and Ashland fans have some real issues. It sounds like two Pitbulls going for the throat. One side wants what will benefit them and the other wants what will benefit them, what is so hard to understand about that. Why all the personal attacks? I'm sure nobody really cares but I feel you have to reward the KIDS for the type of season they have. If you seed, it does just that, if they beat the teams in the district then they are rewarded with a top seed. I, personally, would like for the best team to go to Rupp, not the team who had one great shooting night. Then you say " What about Cinderella", well let's face it, any team from around here is going to be a Cinderella team at Rupp. We are all playing for that slipper, and I want my team to get it but if they don't I want the best team to represent our region at Rupp. I think the way to make sure the best team goes is by seeding, if you don't like that because you feel your team doesn't have the best chance, go to the gym and work and work and work to get better.

Bottom line is someone needs to get ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS on the same page and get the lead and grudges away from ALL OF OUR AD'S and let the kids play.

You are so right RedBlood. The problem is there is no leadership from the KHSAA in this region. For some reason teams follow the Ashland AD. I think the Ashland supporters would be calling for a change of AD. He is an embarrasment. Ashland is better than that. There needs to be some kind of change.

Im sorry, but someone who is on the outside looking in has no right to make a comment like that. Just because someone has a different stance on an idea than you doesnt mean they dont do their job well. You dont know the long hours that go into his job, and all the hard work, that people like me witness. In that type of position you will always have people who disagree with what you do. It takes a very tough person to handle the demands of an AD's job. Im sure more times than not it can seem like a very thankless position. I for one appreciate the honesty of our AD, and his willingness to fight for what he believes in, that is something you dont see a lot of nowadays.

I dont know why most people feel the need to change the opinion of everyone else. Let people have their own opinions. That is what this country was founded on, and that is why we vote. Ashland supporters are not, and will not be calling for a change, and that my friend, is why you do not know what you are talking about. How do you know that the AD, coaches, faculty, and anyone else involved in this issue are in not complete agreement about this issue? The fact is you dont.

Easy there big fella.... :D

I for one appreciate your support for your Tomcats, you know that, and I appreciate the hard work that any AD puts into their job. But I for one have spoken to A LOT OF TOMCAT fans that disagree with your AD. They disagreed with the boycott of Rose Hill when OJ was there, as did Boyd Countys fanbase.

No one will ever get on here and say that Your AD does not put long hours in, or doesnt do good things for your community, but us around your system have also seen some very low shots below the belt to surrounding areas, that never would have happened with an Umberger or anyone else in that position. Dont get me wrong Ashland has taken some shots below the belt also. They do have to contend with but dont hurt your own system players, by taking away the oppurtunity to beat these teams. :thumb:

Out of all Respect to Ashland, I dont believe the Coaches and Players have ever been afraid of Rose Hill, even with OJ, it is the AD that is AFRAID. He doesnt want to see his teams get defeated. I have heard this from Ashland fans for years, that they are not scared. :thumb:

Oh, how I would love to agree with you Redblood, but the fact is this.....the AD at Ashland may be many things he's been called around the community by Tomcats, Lions, Royals, Eagles, etc. but he is not afraid. Otherwise their 05-06 boys varsity schedule would have included HHS, Ironton, and others that were likely to, and did, shellack his team. :jump: Insane, maybe, but not afraid.

Yes, I can confirm it. Why is it such a big deal!? We didnt schedule them this year, and they never scheduled us for 20+ years prior to 2001. What I want to know is why Bird33 starts threads with the title's "Why would Ashland support a proposal that harms AAU programs" and now this one.....

Actually Ashland did seek out a game with Rose Hill in the late 80s or early 90s.It was the first or second year of the Steve Hall era.He personally told me that he wanted Rose Hill and Elliott(apparently they were not very good at that time)as his first two games. He felt that would give him two "sure" victories.

Maybe Ashland should venture to Morgan County for the first time since 1992??? Cougars should have several open dates next year...heck, they are 2 games under limit this year I believe that is what I was told.

It is nice of Nets to mention the fact that Ashland can never seem to find a place on its schedule for Morgan County. Wait until the Cougars are down, Nets. You will be invited to the AIT to play Ashland in the first round. Until then, don't anticipate any contact.

You are so right RedBlood. The problem is there is no leadership from the KHSAA in this region.
There is one school in our region that continually runs afoul of KHSAA guidelines, memos, rules, and regulations. Every school in the bluegrass makes mistakes over time. They are usually very minor in nature. That is true for Ashland, East Carter, Boyd, etc. The overwhelming majority of schools learn from these occasional lapses - some don't. Blaming the KHSAA for your inability to read a memo is akin to blaming the Sherrif because he arrested you for burning leaves that caught your neighbor's house on fire.

For some reason teams follow the Ashland AD.
Well, is it possible that happens because the other schools in our region see the situation in the same light that Ashland does? My guess is that Sparks at Russell, Bayes at BC, and the rest of the AD's aren't really "following Ashland" in some crusade to persecute Rose Hill, but that these men are making decisions based on the same information, and are reading it the same way that Swift is. The alternative would be that everyone else has inept people at the AD slot, that can't think for themselves. Sorry, but I don't buy that. I know Sam Sparks well enough to know that when he disagrees with Swift, he'll tell him so and vote accordingly.

I think the Ashland supporters would be calling for a change of AD.
Fortunately, Phil Eason and the Ashland Board of Education don't seem to value your input into the system that they are running. Perhaps you would like to run for the Ashland BOE on a campaign to remove Swift? Unfortunately for you, I doubt that you will get many votes unless you are willing to run under your real name, as opposed to hiding behind a sobriquet. This site is great in many ways, but one of it's weaknesses is that it allows some people to make ridiculous statements about known figures, while remaining anonymous.

He is an embarrasment.
You might want to clean up your own house prior to trying to tell us how to clean ours.

There needs to be some kind of change.
You are exactly right. When will you start?

Frances

At this point, I'm going to have to agree with scooterbob on one count.

Until some of the people that are involved finally move on, the animosity between Ashland and Rose Hill will never die.

There are simply some people that are not mature enough to let that happen.

As of yesterday their schedule was already full. Maybe AT, can get us an advanced copy.

This past week has been an eye opening experience for yours truely. I grew up an Ashland boy who hated Boyd Co. After the way Boyd Co. conducted themselves Tuesday night I have the upmost respect for their school and athletic program. Not only did they show respect during the Garnes cerimony but their fans were gracious and complimentary after Rose Hill pulled the upset. Not to mention their radio crew was very respectful of Rose Hill.

Does anyone think it will be that way if Rose Hill beats Ashland on 2/28?

Do we have to go down this road again?

So are you suggesting that Rose Hill remove head coach Fraley, AD Euton, Asst coach Euton, school board Chairman Bush, or administrator Douglas? One, some, or all. Just curious.
