Something people haven't mentioned is that Beechwood is looking to replace the worn out turf. To do that, you need Alumni money. Happy Alumni make for more free flowing cash. Unhappy ones have rather tight wallets.

 

Even at a public school, when the people with the money want change, change happens.

One thing you are missing coach has standards not just winning. When he suspended all those players instead of sweeping it under the rug, my kids can play for him any day. Quit worrying about state titles and worry about are your kids being taught the right morals. Every team goes through down yrs BW will be back at the top and as long as Noel is there they will learn more then just football.

This happens at every school. Heck it happened under Yeagle a few times so I don't understand why the news made a big deal out of it. I know it is underage drinking but it happens at every school.

It doesn't matter if he is winning state titles or not people would still complain about something. Even when Yeagle was winning all of those titles in the 90's some parents weren't happy and they wanted him out!

Ironically, the year that Beechwood really had the team to win it all, (and IMO one of the best teams I have ever seen at Beechwood) the Tigers not only lost to Mayfield but cost Mayfield a title as well IMO - so neither of them got the title.

 

I agree. That game took a toll on the Cardinals. One of the hardest hitting, physical games I've seen in a few years. Thank God for Jonathan Jackson completely putting the team on his shoulders and taking over the game, but, it took it's toll on him, as well, as he was basically ineffective in the title game and playing injured. Labront Scott was hobbled, one of there best 2 way lineman got put out of the title game. We were emotionally spent by the time we got to Bowling Green. Hazard beat us fair and square and played great, but, I still believe to this day that the game the week before, hurt us in the title.

As far as the talent pool is concerned, I do think it has fallen off some in comparison to those teams of the 90s and even the early 00's. With that said, I also think the coaching staff has to be able to coach up the lesser talented teams. IMO, Mayfield's talent isn't what it's been the past few years, but, they've overachieved and are still a great team, despite the talent dropoff. That's due to great coaching and getting the most out of what you've got and putting the players in the best positions to make them successful. To me, it's a lot harder for a 1a school to maintain dominance on a yearly basis, simply because the numbers aren't there and they tend to have more up and down cycles, so, yes, coaching is a huge part of a teams success or lack thereof.

After reading all this I can't believe some of these post. As Jason Bucklen said on here that BW has a great coaching staff and would take them over any other. After being with them for four years I too would take them over many. I have never seen a group of coaches who care and put so much time in to preparing their players for another opponent. I have been down there at BW at 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning looking at film, etc., talking with players and coaches and they walk out of there some time 4 or 5 and back again Sunday to prepare for that weeks game. Yes BW has not been to the State Championship game in many a years however, I do know that when those seniors leave BW they are prepared for life and the next level. Now and then one of those seniors may go off in another direction. Noel and his Staff cudo's and congrats on a great year. JD

This is a forum to debate issues, not to plead for censure when you can't develop a good argument.

Beechwood is a great school. You have a good coach and family who bleeds Beechwood Red and you want to run them off?

This isn't Ryle where you have unlimited numbers. You have a limited population. No D-1 bound athletes. Greg Hergott is not walking through that door much any more! Times are changing. As long as his team competes and has success, there is no valid reason to let him go.
