50 Years Ago Today

Anyone else old enough to remember where you were? I was in 3rd grade classroom when the news broke.

WOW! you are old!

Wasn't even a twinkle in my father's eye. The entire thing still fascinates me.

Same here on both accounts. I look forward to reading the recollections of BGPers who were around when it happened.

I believe this also marks the 50-year anniversary of C.S. Lewis' death.

I was 3 days shy of being one month old.

I listened to replays of the radio broadcast this morning. Still fascinating.

8th grade class room at St. James Ludlow! My 8th grader teacher Sister Louis Claire brought in a TV (of course with rabbit ears) so our class could watch. I remember the crying and the real concern of the people in the community when walking home like it was yesterday.

I think the most fascinating thing to me is how inept the Dallas police were. Let's give the guy that just assassinated the President an opportunity to speak to the press. And since we did that, let's go ahead and transport him to the county jail through a hallway with reporters in the middle of the day. I mean, what could go wrong?

There's one criminal in the history of the world that I wish would've lived to see a trial, Oswald.

I was 3 and my parents told me years later how shook up they were.

CBSnews.com is live streaming the entire 4 days as it happened starting today at 1:40 when CBS first broke into programming to announce that shots had been fired.

Interesting observation I just heard about "the event where you will always remember where you were".

For "The Greatest Generation", Pearl Harbor.

For "Generation X", 9-11.

For Boomers, 11/22/63.

Those events were all tragic. The event of my youth that I remember best was the Moon landing in 1969.

You want to read a good book? Now it's just a work of fiction but Steven King 11-22-63 is indeed worth reading.

I was 5. We were stationed at Ft. Lee, Virginia. I don't remember the day of the assassination, but I remember watching the funeral on TV.

Thanks for the info. I've thought about buying that several times.

Have you read Killing Kennedy?
