November 17, 201312 yr UL's defense was really good down the stretch. Maybe I was spoiled by the Petrino years, but last year and this, the teams just don't seem to go hard for four complete quarters. It's maddening to me. And maybe I am completely wrong and they are. But I don't see that intensity myself.
November 17, 201312 yr The offense is not what it should be... And it's really a shame. Too many weapons on offense for them not to be doing more.
November 17, 201312 yr UL's offense has been relatively lacking the last couple of games. It seems there are very deep balls any more and Teddy is taking more sacks. Right now I don't think they can beat Cincy unless they step it up. Defense is still playing well, though.

Too many weapons on offense for them not to be doing more.I watched the game "real" close last night....watched it again on replay.....you know what it is? It's the OLine....play calling is fine, the OLine is not....makes me think any "smidgen" of hope for Teddy to come back, is a no, simply due to that fact. Thankfully help is on the way with the boys in the trenches.
November 17, 201312 yr I can agree that the o-line is a problem. The left tackle position has killed us all season. But I can tell you the play calling has been very vanilla. Strong did make a statement they cant please 3 running backs. So it took them 10 weeks to figure that out. Yes I am still salty over the UCF loss - I still want to punch someone on staff!
November 17, 201312 yr The play calling has gotten more boring and predictable every game this season.... As someone said on Twitter last night, they are wasting "once in a decade" talent. Changes need to be made on the offensive side of the ball.

I've only seen 2 UofL games all the way through, UCF and USF, and in both, Bridgewater spent an inordinate amount of time on his backside. To me, the fact that he is as efficient as his is, given the lack of protection, is a testament to how good he really is.
November 17, 201312 yr Protection has been a problem all year. Last year we had a very seasoned oline. I have said this the entire 3 years. The UL offense and Teddy are at their best when they run No-huddle, 2 minute, NASCAR, INDY, whatever they want to call it. If the Cards would play faster this offense would look more attracktive.

The times they have run the hurry-up, that have been unstoppable. Yet they never do it. If protection is really that bad, you can adapt the playbook to quick pass plays. Teams do it all the time.
November 18, 201312 yr Thankfully help is on the way with the boys in the trenches. To me that is where Louisville has to step it up to continue the success they are having right now or even go higher. Alabama has had some great teams the last 5 to 6 years and one thing they always have in common are great lines. It doesn't matter how good of a RB or QB you have if there isn't good blocking for them.
