They will. In basketball season.

1A Hazard and Frankfort, city schools surrounded by bigger programs in the county.

2A DeSales, have a business acquaintance with a son on that team...rooting for him to get it done if we can't

3A Wayne Co, worked there for the last several years would really like to see them get it done

4A Boyle Co, only 4A program that I really like

5A Boyle Co, we share some heritage with the Purples...Great Colors and Wilson Sears. 2nd Pulaski Co, cross town rival but I have some great friends that this would be their dream come true.

6A McCracken Co, would love to see a non-metro 6A powerhouse be born

1A: Russellville - Good coach and program. Mayfield needs a regional rival in their own class.

 

2A: Somerset - They have some very good young men in that program. My son has gotten to know several of the players over the years and enjoys competing against them. Good coach, great program and too much tradition not have a State Title. If we can't win it, I will be in BG cheering for them.

 

3A: Monroe/Tilghman/Garrard County - Monroe: Know many of the players and their families, great people. Good football community. Tilghman: Love their tradition. Football country. Garrard County: Probably the best coach we have faced all year. His attention to detail was amazing. They play hard-nosed football...I'm a fan.

 

4A: Boyle County - Great football community.

 

5A: Bowling Green - My father played there plus I really like some of their players. Devin Hayes is very under-rated..quality young man/very bright. He is everything you want your QB or son to be.

 

6A: McCracken County - Would love for them to shake-up the 6A pool. 6A is in desperate need of some new blood.

1A - Bellevue

2A - NewCath

3A - Mason County

4A - Russell County

5A - Conner

6A - Campbell County

1A: Beechwood - Gotta go with our local compadres

 

2A: NewCath/Walton-Verona winner - Have a cousin coaching for NCC and WV is my niece and nephew's school

 

3A: Belfry - Would love to see the Pirates finally get over Mt. Central. (Even though we're not getting any reciprocal love from a certain BGP Pirate fan)

 

4A: CovCath - I know it seems off to pick your team's rival, but that's just the way things are up here. If we can't have it, we don't want someone else getting it.

(But I think we'll get it. )

 

5A: Conner - NKY Loyalty

 

6A: Simon Kenton - As much as I fear the gloating we would hear, I would love to see a NKY team finally bring down the L'villians.

My hopes:

1A: Anyone other than Beechwood. Being from a small school in NKY. I just like seeing them lose. However, Coach Rash is a great teacher of the game and person.

 

2A: NCC: Would like for the coach who has given so much to the program get one as the "head" guy.

 

3A: Central: like a dynasty, and a good friend is from Central.

 

4A: Highlands: like a dynasty and it is a NKY school

 

5A: South Oldham : Their kids play with class and character.

 

6A: Simon Kenton: UKFan would never let anyone live it down. SK could lose 50 straight and he would still let you know who won the 2013 6A championship and that Kuntz was best QB in the state, EVER!! He would haunt BGP forever.

Know they aren't eligible, but if they were, I'd honestly be for Fairview. Not saying that to start drama, that's just how I feel. As an outsider, seems like there are a lot of kids that grew up in that program who won't get that Senior playoff memory and/or will be left wondering "what if…". Imagine yourself as a 16 or 17 year old kid whose stuck it out and finally earned some playing time your Senior year. You come to school one morning and hear, "Sorry kid, you didn't know it at the time, and it isn't really because of anything you've done, but you've probably played your last football game."

 

I'd say it's analogous to the segment in the Fab Five documentary where Ray Jackson, who never played in the NBA and saw the pinnacle of his athletic career during his time at Michigan, talk about seeing the Final Four banners being taken down; he doesn't say a lot about it other than he didn't really understand it at the time and how it really isn't fair, but that's how life can be, but you can definitely sense some hurt in his voice. Webber, Rose, Howard, and even King (briefly) all went on to bigger things in the NBA. For Ray Jackson, that was it.

3A: Belfry or Central

5A: Bowling Green

6A: Simon Kenton (if Guru lets me, I'm mailing UKFan#1 a cigar if they do) or McCracken County (because they are a first year school)

1A- Mayfield; a buddy of mine graduated from Mayfield.

2A- Desales; have a cousin there and my old trainer's son

3A- Central; Family ties

4A- Highlands; I love tradition

5A- Bowling Green; PP92 and I like their program

6A- Male; Wakefield(player) and coach Wakefield

1A. Raceland- Like the fans and the hard nose way their team plays. Hazard would be next.

 

2A. Caldwell County- Great team

 

3A. Paducah Tilghman - Respect this team so much. Can't go against them.

 

4A. Highlands - see 3A

 

5A. Bowling Green - Really want them to get the respect they deserve

 

6A. St X - Pulling for a team who has been going through a lot. I really like Walker. McCracken next.
