I'm guessing the rush to defend her by some would be not so quick, and in fact would be the other way around — more like UKMF's comments. Officials blew it...just give the kid another number and be done with it. Now it's national news on Yahoo! Sports. High school athletics are about the kids. If she didn't feel comfortable wearing the number that is universally known by Christians as the mark of the beast, then give her another number.

The number 666 has been an issue with Riverside Christian's school system in Breathitt County due to their telephone number being 606-666- ,and the other four digits. I believe a few years ago they complained about it but to no avail. It is a little weird, though, for a Christian school to have to use that number as the first 3 digits of their school phone.

Never said she was looking for an out. I just think the choice was MUCH easier since she wasn't going to qualify. All the articles lead the reader to think otherwise. This didn't keep her from qualifying for state as she isn't magically going to shave 5 minutes off her PR in a few weeks.
