At least be a little respectful. SK has a good of a chance as they ever have this year with the Louisville 6A teams down. Comparing them to a UK team who has one win on the year isn't exactly right.

I will tell you this much. Highlands better wake up. Collins has the speed that WC has and Collins also has a pretty good passing game.

Just pulling some chain....easy.....but i just dont think they can beat the big boys from Louisville.

So HHS "has their choice" yet they have maybe 5 kids from out of area. Did they simply CHOOSE not to take others?

 

Come on. HHS wins with Ft Thomas kids. This isn't 2004 when they got a stud from SK and 3 players from CCH.

 

Man Clyde, I love your posts and really respect your opinion, but the bolded kind of makes the point that you're trying to defend. Sometimes schools just get 1-2 "stud" kids who happen to enroll there, but when it's a Derek Smith, Mike Mitchell, etc., then it makes a HUGE difference.

If I'm a troll for questioning why a team that many regard as the #1 or #2 team in the state regardless of class only beats a 5-5 team by 2 points, then I'm glad to be called a 'troll'.

 

If the roles were reversed and this were Simon Kenton not beating Campbell County (whose probably better than Warren Central, at least according to some rankings) badly enough, I feel there'd be a lot of 'overrated' howling.

 

 

I will give the simplest answer I can give to the question,

 

 

HHS played without 5 defensive starters. Five very talented defensive starters. Resting from injuries suffered last week against Elder. With 45% of your starting defense on the sidelines, a team with the athletes that WC has will take advantage. Congrats to WC for playing their hearts out for 4 quarters.

 

For those of you that think replacing 5 players the caliber of Abner, Urlage, Bardo, Gall, and Wrobleski will not affect the level of play you have no idea of the abilities of these kids.

Only one thing once the WC hit the edge they was gone. Tacklers couldn't even tag them.

WC was probably one of the fastest teams I have seen play.

The defense that played Elder at the Pit last week and the defense that played WC tonight were completely different.

 

If this score gives those future opponents on the HHS schedule hope, so be it. They can hope that Abner, Urlage, Bardo, and Wrobleski remain sidelined. Otherwise they are in for a rude awakening.

 

Not arguing that it is or isn't false hope. Just saying that many times, perception and reality are different, and others, they are more similar than they should be.

 

If I'm coaching a team and I feel that deep down, Highlands would overmatch us and that my kids are already beat mentally beat on Monday when the game isn't until Friday just because of the name on the jersey, I'm having my tape people scrambling to put together clips of teams beating down Warren Central, to be followed by clips of Warren Central's offense moving against Highlands at the end of the reel. I show the tape I've put together to my team and try to "rah rah" enough to reinforce the point that they shouldn't feel beaten before they step onto the field, and that even if they get down early, someone else has hung around and came back on them.

I don't think it's an annual event and realize they have much less 'luck' in this area than many other top programs. But if I'm a Dad and my kid is a solid football player in middle school but lives in say, Grant County, Boone County, or Ryle's district, I'm looking at maybe moving him to Highlands or one of their feeder schools so he can get in their program.

 

I'm not saying Highlands even goes out of their way to do it, just that they are a very good school academically and have a very respected football program for good reason, so if I think my kid can play there, maybe I enroll them and show up at the first day of practice.

 

That's not meant as a knock on Highlands at all. If anything, it's a compliment. They were a Blue Ribbon School a few years back and that's a very prestigious honor. Good players are allowed to be attracted to good programs. While the players like Smith and Mitchell haven't happened recently, the fact that other parents and kids may recruit themselves into your program without any action on your part is just one of the perks of being a good program (both academically and athletically).
