I believe that playing a tough schedule is a good thing but saying 6A schools should play Highlands if they want to win a State title is ridiculous the last time the big school state champion played Highlands in a REAL game was 1998. The path to a big school state title does not go through Ft.Thomas. Look at the one NKY 6A school that played Highlands consistently they couldn't compete with the Birds and it led to Ft.Thomas people questioning the direction of that schools program which at the time was headed by one of their own. I hope SK never schedules highlands to continue to read how offended GROWN MEN get by the fact that SK is proud of their programs accomplishments. It really is no different than Highlands not playing Trinity in a real game yet want to be considered the best team in the State.

 

Taking a different approach to your thinking, if the 6A schools in NKY can't beat Highlands, how are they ever going to compete with the Louisville schools? Playing Highlands can make them better if they learn from the experience. There's no shame in a school losing to Highlands if proper expectations are set with the team and fan base. "We might take our lumps, but we'll be better by learning from our mistakes and using it as motivation to get better"

Really? This is the best Elder team they have had in at least 3 or 4 years. Elder has lost to two of the top teams in Ohio. They are a top 10 DI team in Ohio.

From my standpoint, I don't care who they play as long as they challenge themselves. I think most think playing Cov Cath and HHS (who are right in your backyard) is a good way to challenge yourself. We hear how they want to be recognized as a top team, but then won't play anyone. You aren't going to get recognition or any better by playing a schedule like that. One of the excuses used is that they play all the 6A schools around here and it doesn't make sense to travel of play teams that far away. Really? You don't have to. And they do play teams from down state, just lower ranked division teams. That comment actually cracked me up, but I left it alone. Regardless of class or whether you feel we are saying "the 6A title rolls through Ft Thomas" (which is hilarious in itself that is what you take from our comments), it's about challenging and preparing your team to play the best at state. I could care less who they play, but I would never consider them a powerhouse in the state by looking at that schedule. They have done this the last couple years and as soon as they play a decent team, they get smashed. Why would anyone consider them a top team? What have they done to show anyone on here anything different? Having a winning record only goes as far as the teams you played against. So do you think an undeated DIII team is better than a 1 loss Alabama? Noone would. That's kind of how I think of SK until they beat someone that is actually at the level they are claiming to be. I've already said this, but I have waaaayyyyy more respect for a 4-4 (whatever they are now) NCC team than I do an undefeated 6A team that only has 6A teams on their schedule because they have to play them and choses to fill the rest of their schedule with what should be cupcake games for a powerhouse 6A school. That doesn't mean I think NCC is better than SK, but I would give them much more respect for doing the right things, challenging themselves and preparing themselves for a state run. What did SK do to prepare themselves to compete for a state TITLE? Who did they play that sets them up to not be completely shell shocked when they see a SC, T X, Male, Manual again?

 

I bet if you honestly asked the fans (that arent as naive as some on here) what they would rather have, I bet it would be much different.

 

Would they rather have what they are today....Undefeated team that is truly untested against top competition? And please don't tell me they are. They may have been tested against Conner, Collins and Dixie, but please don't try and tell me you really believe that is "tested against top competition".

 

OR, would the fans feel better if they were 6-4 and would have played and been competitive with Cov Cath, HHS and maybe a Moeller, St X or Elder? Forget that I'm an HHS fan and plug any bigtime programs in there. I don't care.

 

I know that I would much rather know exactly where I stand and know that my kids have seen just about everything that can be thrown at them, rather than playing a cupcake schedule and having no clue what my team will do when they see a team just as big, fast and athletic as mine. That already showed itself in the Dixie game. Dixie is a good team, but still not going to convince me they are on the level of the big 4-5 this year...even with the big boys being considered "down".

 

Please don't get me wrong. I have said many times that I really hope this is a start of an upward trend in NKY football. I really do! But you have to make sure the fans and players are challenging the coaches to do the right thing and play good teams. It doesn't take long for fans to realize what "fools gold" is. You can rack up all kinds of wins agains weaker opponents, but in the end, it means nothing if you aren't at least competing in games against schools that you'd have to compete against to eventually win a state title. Not a lot of teams win state titles, but a lot of teams can at least compete for one and have a chance to beat the big dogs in their division. I can't stand the NKY attitude in 6A of "well we'll never beat T, so why try?" In my opinion (and not being mean at all), SK hasn't done anything to give me any hope that they could actually win state this year, even in an extremely down year. Not playing a tough schedule and having very close games against teams that could not be within 3-4 touchdowns of the top 5 6A schools, tells me SK will struggle once they get there. I would love to be wrong!

You really can't believe what you just typed! Hilarious! A "not as good Elder team" (even if we believed what you say) is still light years ahead of any team on SK's schedule! And remember, SK is more Elder's size. Why is lil ole HHS even have them on their schedule?? HHS would be a divsion 3 team in Ohio. Not D1! Poor Bluebirds have to play Elder this week? You must know and see something the Cincinnati football coaches don't. They have Elder number 3 in the top division behind Moeller and Colerain. I'd say that's pretty darn solid.

But what the sad part would be is that it would mean NKY football is still that far behind. So in a sense, if you want to believe NKY is making strides, then you should be rooting for the birds. Because if they are considered by most to be the best and they get spanked, where's that put the others?
