Two officials working a game in New Orleans were not happy with the police officers who were on the sideline. An argument broke out between the officials and the officers over crowd control. It reportedly got very heated and the white hat attempted to throw the officer out of the game - ie have him removed. Instead he and another official were arrested on the spot for "public intimidation." Game was delayed for 25 minutes.

It's always smart to know who you are picking a fight with before you do it. Lol.

Part of the story that sticks out to me: "The referee walked toward the sideline, and when he began walking back onto the field, he was called over by a Covington police officer."

 

I'm guessing that some heads will roll on this one given the amount of attention it's going to get.

 

Anyone think the hometown team in this case gets any favors done by the stripes the rest of the year, regardless of who was right or wrong?

Yea... like when the School's AD gets a call on Monday morning from the State's Athletic Commission asking for an explanation of what went down.

The ref's were shaking hands with each other ......behind their back, in hand cuffs.

"You're outta here!"

I hope the follow up on this makes the paper as well. There had to be a better way of handling this.

Covington Police Caption Jack West told Deke Bellavia what officers say happened in the incident:

 

"Well, a referee asked a police officer to move some people back. The police officer moved them back. Another referee came up to the police officer and told him, 'that's not far enough.' The police officer explained....would you please handle the game, referee the game, and we will handle the crowd for you. The second referee told the police officer, nose-to-nose with the police officer, 'you're out of the game...get outta here.' And the police officer said, 'excuse me sir, just referee the game, and we'll handle the crowd.' And he says 'no, get out. Get out now.'
