Reds fire Dusty Baker

Featured Replies

The same can be said about every fan base in every sport across the country. It's not exclusive to Cincinnati fans.

Perhaps. But are they as good at it and as diligent as Reds fans? Do they start their bashing before the first pitch when lineups are posted? Can they match the Reds fans consistency of manager bashing over 20 years and a half dozen managers, through winning years and losing years?

My advice to Jocketty is name someone fast. If he waits too long, the pent up bashing demand will come falling on him very soon.

How many games before Reds fans start bashing ______ ?

You won't have to wait any games. There'll be bashing before the guy is even introduced at his press conference.

Sad but very true.

Cincinnati's fans and media are like kittens compared to most pro sport cities'...

Who's the leader at this point to replace "The Toothpick"?

Bryan Price I would assume.

Have also heard Jim Riggleman, David Bell, Barry Larkin, and Jim Tracy.

Yeah, just saw an article where the NHL's Flyers fired their coach after just 3 games. It makes Chip Kelly the elder statesman in Philly...with all of 5 games under his belt!

I am going with the floss. You know, you can only clean up so much with ther toothpick. If you really want to get down to fundamentals and clean up all the nittty gritty details so you play clean, the floss is the way to go. :taz:

I keep hearing only two names mentioned for the Redlegs job, Price and Riggleman. While I like what Price has done with the pitching staff, is he prepared to manage a team? I'm sure he would have to delegate working with pitchers to someone else if he would take the job. Just don't know how that would work out. And Riggleman..........just NO. I thought the organization was going to look outside the box on this hire but it sounds, at least what is reported in media, that they are looking internally as the cheaper way to go. Could be this is all a smoke screen.

When / where did you get that impression?

I think the biggest question with Bryan Price is going to be this: this team played too casually and without a sense of urgency, and you were a part of that staff, why / how will things be different under your leadership? How will the culture change with you in place?

Don't know which "talkin' head" I heard it from or maybe I saw it on-line. You know everybody in media is an expert (present company and BGP members excluded from my sacrcasm). I agree with your statement about Price. My very first reaction was to give him the job but I needed to step back and take a look at things that happened just as you posted.

Might of been discussed on MLBTV or FS1.

Paul O'Neil is a candidate according to ESPN.

I think I like him as a possibility.

That would be interesting.
