He's a players coach/manager and he let his players get him fired. If the Red's players liked the laid back manager then they should have had better approaches at the plate and played with a little more fire.

 

This is the key with me. Baker's strong suit was supposed to be in the clubhouse and having the players ready to play. I was as sick of the incessant blaming of everything on Baker's lineup card as anybody, but when the team wets the bed like they did to close out their season it's hard to argue a change wouldn't benefit them. I just hope the next manager isn't another guy that's going to be managing a minor league team in a few years.

Dude, I'm not the one that came up with it. I'm not making this stuff up. WSJ did an analysis of all baseball players and BP was ranked the most average offensive player in the game. As I said, the Reds could've batted Frazier, Ludwick, or even Meso right behind Choo and Votto this year and they'd have had 100 RBI or darn close to it.

 

I agree with you on his 100 RBIs being less than impressive giving his spot in the batting order and I've never been a big fan of his. However, the article that labeled him the most average offensive player in baseball only you'll into account his offensive production and not his defensive position, right? He's very mediocre as a middle of the order hitter and horrible as a leadoff our number 2 hitter but I would think his offensive production would be well above average amongst second basemen.

It only looked at offense yes. I don't think it took into account what position players hit in the lineup, but I don't know for certain.

I haven't read every post, but will say that I'm surprised at this. Many people got annoyed with how Dusty managed the game, including myself at times. However, I also remember how horrific the team was when he got here and how much better they have gotten since he arrived. I find it hard to fire a manager after winning 90 games in a season, regardless of what's done in the postseason. Considering all that happened over the season including Ludwick's injury (HUGE IMPACT), Cueto missing the time that he did, and injuries to the relievers, Dusty did more than good with what he had to work with.

 

My thinking is in relation to the minority; believing that we better be careful of what we wish for. If the Reds believe that a new manager is the answer, he needs to be very proven considering the talent that is on the team.

Bottom Line = With the talent that this team has, fielding, pitching, bullpen there is No Excuse for this Reds Team not to advance to the NL Championship Series and probably the World Series. Baker has always had trouble winning the "Big" game and "Bigger Series" be it in the regular season or post season.

Yes, the hitting, especially with risp was terrible. A hitting coach should have been fired and replaced, no doubt in my mind but when it gets down to it failure, personel needing replaced it falls on the manager. I know the poor attitude of adult players was there but Baker imo needed to :light the fire" under a team instead of being their best friend.

 

Dusty Baker is a good man, with class and I wish him well....except for whoever his next team may be plays the Reds (or Yankees in the AL). After failing to advance in the playoffs once again it was time for him to go in Cincy.

Dustin Pedroia has 2 Gold Gloves himself to go along with a Rookie of the Year, League MVP, a Silver Slugger award and a World Series ring. He's a much better baserunner, one of the best fielders in the league, a great situational hitter and a great clubhouse leader. Better range is the only place Phillips is better.

I haven't read it but I would think that it couldn't take his position into account. He's nothing special at all in the 1-4 spots in the order but he's better than most second basemen offensively. Second base and shortstop was largely an offensive wasteland this season.
